Road to NMC Registration

World Registration

Published

Hello guys, here is my timeline towards NMC United Kingdom registration as of today (September 02, 2014). I just submitted my 1st pack two days ago, so as of the moment, i am still waiting for that important mail from NMC London, i know how hard it is to wait but just add more patience and we will all get there. I will also mention here some helpful tips that i've learned while undergoing through this process. Btw, i am 28 yrs old, currently working in a private hospital here in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

May 2014: (About 2nd week) i took my IELTS academic exam under British Council, by the end of the May, i got my score. We are all aware that NCM'S IELTS grade requirement is minimum of score 7 in all sub-tests. So luckily, i got what i needed.

June 19, 2014: I'm back in the Philippines for my 43 days annual leave, i took advantage of applying to some recruitment agencies (you can find a lot especially when you are in Manila), i tried to phone and e-mailed Greenfields and Aureus in Las Pinas. Greenfields quickly responded to my Queries but then they prioritize those with Decision Letter already, so they advised me to apply first then get back to them. On the other hand, Aureus is more accommodating, i personally visited their offices (Few Kilometers from SM Southmall) then i gave them my CV, luckily, their partner Agency in London (which is MEDACS) is looking for staff Nurses for Midessex NHS Trust, at this point, Aureus is not requiring a DL, as long as you passed the required IELTS and hospital experience, they will gladly accomodate you. After 3 days, Aureus called and informed me that their partner agency in London (MEDACS) will phone me any time of the day for initial interview. I received a call from Medacs, and immediately informed me that it will be the initial interview, she asked my about my nursing career, experiences and my ielts score, it was like a 10-15 minutes light interview, and she will tell you right after the converstion if you passed. So again i passed it and told me she will send the requirements tahts i need to submit like photocopies of passport, proof of address, Valid IDs, copy of NMC, qualification certs, police check, IELTS and references. And she also scheduled me for a drug calculation exam which you have to pass and get a 100% score (yup, perfect score, but don't worry since it will be an easy one, simple conversions, fluid regulation, correct dosages ect).

July 2014 : After passing the drug calculation and submitting some requirements, MEDACS finally scheduled me for a skype interview with the representative from NHS Trust. I did the interview at home, due to proximity (It is supposed to be done in Aureus office). The interview went well about 45 minutes, there were 2 interviewer, both were not intimidating and nice so im very confortable the entire duration of the interview, they will just inform you through email if you pass. After 2 days, i received an email from MEDACS on behalf of Midessex NHS Trust confirming that i passed the interview and offered me a conditional letter, btw, i already submitted my NMC application on June 30, 2014. I immediately prepare all the documents needed for pack 1 so as to avoid delays in submitting my 1st pack:

Here is the link for online form (for those trained outside Europe)

https://forms.nmc-uk.org/forms/overseasrequest

Here is the Information booklet in Registering as Nurse or Midwife (be sure to read this one)

http://www.nmc-uk.org/Documents/Registration/Registering%20as%20a%20nurse%20or%20midwife%20from%20outside%20EU%20or%20EEA.pdf

Make sure to have those stage 1 requirements be certified (yes, you hear me right CERTIFIED!) copies of passport (page with personal details), birth certificate and registration certificate (like PRC board cert and Saudi Council Accreditation cert) and marriage cert if you have.

July 15, 2014: I called the NMC since 15 days have passed and i did not receive my 1st package, they asked me if i have relatives in UK so that they will also send it to them. i gave my friends address!

tip: check your local post office in there in the Philippines, mine was received by our local post office on July 14, 2014 but only delivered on August 05, 2014, i am already in Saudi Arabia, so make sure to check your local post office. Since some of my documents will be coming from the Philippines, i just sent my 1st pack by the end of August... and right now I am waiting for my 2nd pack... will update you guys once i receive it. Goodluck to you all

Hi rehzah926. I'm in a somewhat similar situation to you with the same concerns. What's happening with your application so far? All the best wishes for your application.

Did you start your NMC application? And did you already have an employer here in UK?

I just took the IELTS... and got overall of 6.5. Really frustrated. Maybe this just isn't the right time for me to apply to UK.

Hi all,

Just want to ask if anyone of you here experienced getting an email from NMC requesting further information for your application? They actually asked me to update my TRF number in my online application as I incorrectly typed one letter as a number- that's letter "I". I wonder if I will need to re-enter the assessment queue again an wait for another 40-70 days before I get my decision letter? Thank you in advance. :)

Do I still qualify if I have 1year and 7 months gap? I work as ICU staff nurse in Philippines from June 2011 to March 2015 and enrolled nurse in Singapore from March 2015 to present.

They don't answer your phone call?

Are you sure? This is the first time I have read that NMC doesn't answer phone calls. As a loyal caller (lol hahaha) to NMC, there was never an incident that my phone call wasn't answered. In fact, if you call them during the least busy times on a given day, they'll answer right away (and they have some of the most helpful and accommodating operators in the world, I am telling you).

Better call them again. Don't depend on email alone as it takes a lot of time for them to reply.

Best of Luck!

Late reply but..

Gaps shouldn't be a cause of concern as long as you have at least 1 year of Nursing Experience within the last 3 years, as written in their webpage. Your ICU Nursing experience should even be sufficient enough for you to apply, but NMC will definitely ask you on your Enrolled Nurse experience in Singapore. (That's another problem to focus on: Singapore license verification, police clearance, etc).

Specializes in NICU.

I'm having a similar problem. However, they do answer for me; you just have to call during UK business hours. What happens is they reset my account and I can log in once and then I have the same error message "unauthorized" again. Resetting my password doesn't help.

I have to say, everyone answering phones at the NMC are so kind but their technology is crap. They are constantly having technological issues. Just a few days ago I got an email saying they rejected my application and I had to call them in a panic! Turns out it was just another technological glitch.

So, for those of you that have passed the NMC RN1 test, what is the next step when the recruiter contacts me? Visa? OSCE? How did you schedule the OSCE? Did you take a trip there and then back home or did you do it once you had moved over there and just hoped you would pass? It seems ridiculous for us to take off work and spend thousands of dollars on flights just to take a skills test that could be done in our home country.

DOes anybody know how can I explain my employment gap in NMC? I should have added employment details but i ticked the box saying no. Im already working as a government nurse for 3 years now.imagejpeg

Hello! Good day everyone.

I'm a 26 year old newbie currently working here in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for 2 years and 8 months now. I'm planning to shift to UK and thinking about taking the IELTS.

Could you please give me tips on how Am I going to prepare for the test?

Is it true that the exam here in KSA a lot easier than in the Philippines?

Thank you in advance for your response. God bless everyone! 😊
