Hello everyone. I'm a Canadian RPN with almost 15 years experience and I will like to immigrate to Ohio. I don't really know how or what I should do. Please if anyone can help me or tell me where to start? or what I should do? Thanks

Do you have work rights? RPN/LPN does not qualify for a work or immigrant visa even with over a decade of experience. A TN visa requires a minimum of RN/BSN. Have you looked at Ohio BoN for procedures for licensing by examination as an internationally educated nurse?

If you don't have rights to work then your current license will not qualify you for work visa, TN visa or work based immigrant visa. That may be your biggest barrier

I do have the right to work.I have a valid license as registered practical nurse in Ontario and currently working with a nursing agency since 2009.I will get in contact with the college of nurses of Ohio and will see what is their suggestion and thank you :)

It's board of nursing in the US. You can find the information online for licensing by examination as an internationally educated nurse. If you already have a visa with work rights then you should already have a social security number that will help when you apply for work. Know that the scope of an LPN in the US is much more narrow than in Canada. There are extremely few acute care/hospital jobs. Most US jobs for LPNs are in private duty, long term care, home health and sometimes outpatient clinics.

Do you have a visa allowing you to live and work in the US? If you do not then what is being said is that your LPN will not meet requirements for a visa either immigrant or work that allows you to live and work in the US if you are the main applicant. If you do have a visa allowing you to live and work in the US then all you have to do is meet requirements of International Trained Nurse and pass NCLEX
