How to become a Registered nurse in Canada?

Hello, I'm an RN in the Philippines and the only experience I got is the volunteering experience. Is there a working experience required in order to become a RN in Canada?

You need to check out the provincial college of RN for the province you are looking at living and working in and see what their requirements are

It is much easier to get registered and much easier to immigrate if you have work experience as a nurse.

Paid employment is not the requirement it is nursing experience.

As long as you can prove that the experience you have was nurses' work then it should count.

Check with the college or association in the province you want to work in.

    Actually, requirements are paid employment.

CLPNA's guidelines usually mirror CARNA's, so in the province of Alberta, paid employment is a requirement.

Fiona59..things are NOT the same across Canada.

So once again we are seeing that things change in each province in Canada

    My inquiry to CRNBC:

In application for registration is nursing experience excluded that includes volunteer hours or is it "nursing work" that is evaluated regardless of whether it is paid or not??

I am specifically asking in regards to internationally educated nurses...although I am not sure why that should make a difference

This response from the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia.

"All registered nurses, regardless of the country of their qualification, must meet the basic practice hour requirement. Volunteer (unpaid) RN hours can be counted for the purpose of meeting this requirement. "
Which simply leaves us with the caveat that we have all referred to many times in these forums.
For internationally educated nurses ...PLEASE go to the website for the provincial nursing organization and if the information is not there for you then, contact the college or association for that province and see what they say.
