California NCLEX Application Denied. :(

ok, so the other day i was just worrying about the status of my nclex application. just yesterday, i received a letter from the cali-bon telling me that they had evaluated my application documents and they find the bsn program i had completed was not equivalent to the minimum requirement for licensure as set forth in business and professions code sec. 2736.

(b) an applicant who has received his or her training from a

school of nursing in a country outside the united states and who hascomplied with the provisions of subdivision (a), or has completedtraining equivalent to that required by subdivision (a), shallqualify for licensure by successfully passing the examination prescribed by the board.

i find it very confusing because i have classmates and schoolmates who are working as nurses in california. the letter further said:

the board has received the transcripts and clinical training records from university of *****. in addition to the transcripts, the board has received documentation regarding the related learning experience (rle) record and the schedule for clinical procedures. the courses on your transcripts and the clinical records do not correspond to when the training was supposed to have been completed. because of these discrepancies in your academic program, we cannot consider you eligible for the nclex-rn examination.

is my school the one at fault or did the cali-bon change their policies regarding nclex-rn? :((

Where did you complete your education? It depends.

because the california bon determined that there are discrepancies in your transcript, they have decided to deny your application on grounds that you have not successfully completed your nursing education. you did not meet the requirement and was denied because you have not

[h=3]california code - section 2736[/h]

have successfully completed the courses of instruction prescribed by the board for licensure, in a program in this state accredited by the board for training registered nurses, or have successfully completed courses of instruction in a school of nursing outside of this state which, in the opinion of the board at the time the application is filed with the board of registered nursing, are equivalent to the minimum requirements of the board for licensure established for an accredited program in this state.

I graduated in a University in the Philippines whereas some of my colleagues who are already working as nurses in California also finished their BSN. That's why I find it ridiculous. Screw it! I'll just apply here in Texas after my evaluation from the CGFNS.

If you check the international forum there are many threads started by nurses in the same position. It seems this regulation has been on the books for 10 years but CA BRN only started enforcing it in the past year or so. The same discrepancy issue also applies when applying for a license by endorsement as an internationally educated nurse. Good luck with TX.

I think my school commited a mistake. I called my aunt who is a dean for 30 years till now and she told me that when she reviewed my papers from my school, they(my school) should've put the exact time and dates when I had my clinical preceptorship. Never thought she was right. OMG!!! I feel so stupid. What should I do?? :(((

Kabayan I think they denied you because of the concurrent thing,completion of your cases theory and clinical should be done at the same time/semester..many of us are having the same problem right now..btw from what school are you?

if the denial of application was put into a decission would it mean that its the same as denial of licensure? kinda confused with this. please enlighten me.

kabayan I think its a yes..because we will not be able to sit for the exam..which is the requirement for having a license..

ok. thanks, any other state board that we can apply to that doesnt ask this question?

im too queasy already for its been 2 months that i am looking for another state board before the analyst send the result of my re-application. im seeing no hope other than re-enrolling for a masters degree or just re-enroll the subjects that i seemed to be lacking in california board. i just dont want to give up having my life back here in the states.
