CA RN license endorsement for international applicant

World Registration

Published

Hi

I am trying to endorse my RN licenses to CA but have some questions regarding "requirement for international applicant".

As many of you may know, CA board requires the transcript in Eng and the breakdown of the educational program for international education programs.

I graduated from a undergrad nursing school in my country, but went to the graduate nusring school in the United States for master's degree in nursing (nurse practitioner) and graduated this year.

In this case, can I just submit the transcript from my grad school in the states instead of submitting all the requirements from my undergrad school? (transcripts and the breakdown of educational program...)?

I am sure that my undergrad school doesn't keep the course contents since I graduated about 10 years ago, and this will make everything so complicated...

Hope anyone can help me!

Moved to the Nurse Registration forum under the World tab as you initially trained outside the US.

I would contact BRN but expect them to ask for your original transcripts of your RN training as they want to know that your original training meets their requirements and that your clinical and theory was done together

Your situation is different than most here, in that you have a Master's from the states, but the BSN was done overseas, so yes, inquire with the CA BRN directly for better answers as they are the only ones that can approve or decline your application.

What state are you currently licensed now?

For CA, you will now need to provide them with a copy of your local country's nursing license, do you have a valid and current copy of that international nursing license? However, I'm not sure if the CA BRN will need it or not since you graduated 10 years ago, but as suggested, write to the CA BRN to get clarification.

I'm assuming that you also have either a valid work authorized SS# or proper working visa to apply into CA?

There was a recent incident of one foreign applicant into CA, actually received the CA nursing license via the endorsement process and had been working as an RN, only to be requested that the license be returned within 5 days or face other consequences if not.

My point is that the BSN is the foundation for the license processing requirement, however, it's been mentioned many times that for the applicants especially from the PH that one can get licensed in CA by taking the deficiency courses or completing a Master's program in the States (those that received a Master's from an overseas college/school did not get approved in CA).

CA looks at the education that initially qualified you as an RN. For example an Excelsior College ASN grad that later earns a BSN and/ or MSN is still ineligible for a CA RN license as the initially qualifying education does not meet CABRN standards. If your BSN does not meet the standards of CABRN you risk denial
