I've heard of sumtriptan injections being helpful

Specializes in ICU/CCU.

I always do IV Toradol and IV Reglan.

is toradol effective? every body I order it for never seems to find relief. they always want more meds.

Specializes in Adult Internal Medicine.

Inpatient or outpatient?

Outpatient I use Toradol and Decamethasone IM if it's a severe one that they are going to have to go to the ED for otherwise.

I'm not an NP, but I thought I'd respond with personal experience. I understand there are migraine pathways to follow. I have been treated personally with an IV cocktail of Toradol, Solumedrol, Zofran and Benadryl a few times. Once, that did not work, and I was treated with Depakote which was the next drug on the pathway. It kicked it. Thank God I haven't needed treatment for a long time. If I need it at home I take sumatriptan with aleve...it's the same, and cheaper than Relpax.

I personally take a triptan. If that doesn't help I take the second dose, if that doesn't work I end up in the ER and get the iv migraine cockatail of reglan, decadron, and Benadryl. The iv cocktail works wonders.

Specializes in allergy and asthma, urgent care.

In Urgent Care I use Toradol and Decadron. If that doesn't work I send the patient to the ER.

Toradol and zofran, then maybe some prednisone. IV benerdryl but with caution as I have heard that it can be problematic with causing euphoria. Rarely narcs......very rare. Never tried Iv dex.....might give that a try!

Working in the ER as an RN. We use 12.5 mg promethazine, 25 mg Benedryl, 30 mg IV toradol, Decadron and 1 L of NS. Our neurologists have actully scolded our ER Doc's who prescribe narcs for headache. No FNP, working on PMHNP, thought I would throw in our standard practice in ER.

Specializes in Internal medicine/critical care/FP.

not narcs for me. anything but narcs. seems like everybody responds differently so its different for everybody. if everything checks out with the ct and all dangerous stuff is ruled out we end up kitchen sinking a lot of people...
