I graduate with my FNP Dec 2014! I'm very interested in a retail clinic position. I love the idea of not working 5 days per week and they have a great starting salary. (I refuse to accept anything less than $85k and will continue to search until I do.) Anyone currently working this or previously worked this type of setting? How was the application process?

You need to get on Facebook. There is a private group (just click to request to join) called "Nurse Practitioners in Retail Health."

Thanks!

The MCs (around here anyway) are pretty easy to get an interview at, they require you to shadow prior to applying, and they pay in the mid-$50/hr range at 32 hour work-weeks. They also offer added shifts if you want to make even more.

Best wishes to you in the field. I spent my first 2 years of NP work flying with an ER MD "learning the ropes." Despite having 6 years RN experience in critical care.

Just sharing is there is a huge leap of clinical experience going from RN to NP, novice to proficient. Don't underestimate this curve. My friends in retail health have had some "serious" conditions present that required emergent transport to nearest facility. Think this over and request the additional training time if needed. It's not all bee stings and viral fevers out there. :) blessings.

Are you referring to Boston? Lol That's good to hear esp since I'm willing to relocate to another state.

That's good I'm actually looking forward to a challenge and finding preceptors willing to teach me. I do know that I want out of acute care.

I hope be applying to FNP programs within the next 6 months. I have always been fascinated by the idea of convenient care clinics (or retailhealth). I think the concept is innovative to say the least. I am aware that there are something's that some practitioners feel can be improved with certain chains and their practices, but over all I like it and have heard many positive stories. I did a research project for my RN to BSN program and found really interesting information on the info collects. By the RAND corporation about retail health clinics and the like.

I hope to practice in the convenience/retail healthcare. "Sector" at some point in my career when I become a FNP.

I also love the fact that you don't have to work the whole 9-5, 5 days a week.
