Hey there,

Need some help deciding on what test to take. I know that the GMAT is geared for people entering MBA school, but was wondering if it is appropriate for graduate nursing school in general. I know that I cannot succeed on the MAT... with all those stupid analogies. I guess it comes down to the GRE or GMAT. I guess I'll have to talk with the school to make sure, but have any of ya'll taken the GMAT without doing an MBA program? If not, how many of you took the GRE and what can you tell me about it? Is the Kaplan book the best? Any pointers would be great!

Thanks!

You have to take whatever the school you want to get into requires. It's not up to you to make the choice which test you take.

As stated above, you do not make the decision as to which to take, the school does it for you if you wish to attend there.

Most of the nursing grad programs I have seen want the GRE, but you should DEFINATELY check with the school before you take ANY of them!!!

Yes, definately check, because although most schools accept the GRE, there are a few that actually want you to take the MAT instead.

Good luck!

The school's site listed and this morning, the assistant dean confirmed that you may take either the GRE or MAT. If you want to take the GMAT, and you are not entering an MBA program, you have to obtain special permission. With that said, I am leaning more towards the GRE instead of the MAT.

For those that have taken either of them... what advice do you have for me? Like I asked previously, which book (Kaplan, Princeton Review, Dummies, etc.) do you think is the best prep?

I've taken both. I'd try some of the practice tests and then go from there. The tests are so different that its' hard to compare. In my day the comptuer sci classes were in the math department and I got away with ot taking any actuall match classes. I couldn't get a good score on the GRE if my life depended on it. I did great on the MAT. I then went and enrolled in school that used GPA and didn't use any of hte tests. As to the reviews. It depends on your learning style and how well you learn. I used a compination of all the books on the Barnes 7 Noble bookshelf and took 150 questions every night for 2 months before the test.

My MSN program stated either the MAT or GRE. I bought a study book for each test, went through the books and decided to take the MAT. The GRE exam was much more like the ACT/SAT tests in high school, but way more advanced. The MAT was nothing but analogies. I used the Kaplan book and did quite well on my exam.

Good luck to you!

I'm studying for the GRE to get into an accelerated BSN program and have found the Kaplan CD-rom set very helpful. I got mine on Ebay, it's available also at kaptest.com and I heard you can find it at most major bookstores.

I first checked it out of my local library (they had last year's version) to see if it was worth buying. IMO it's much more helpful than the books that I also checked out of the library (a big assortment including GRE for Dummies, the kaplan book, etc.)

Good luck!

I took the MAT. I studied the tips they gave in the Barons book and did OK. I think the GRE would have been much harder.
