UNC Chapel Hill May 2012

Hi, anybody out there applying for the BSN May cohort for 2012?

I am! I live in California right now but plan is to relocate to NC in the future so if I get accepted, guess we'll be moving next year!

Yes it is upsetting I really thought I had a chance after retaking my stat class but I guess I am not what they are looking for.

Flat out rejection here too. Unreal. Guess it's for the best! I am so done with UNC for so many reasons.

I think me too. I can't keep paying the application fee, getting my hopes up, and then scrambling to figure out my next move when I get the inevitable "we are sorry..."

Don't blame yourselves, guys. I went to UNC for undergrad, and I think the school gets joy out of screwing people over. After the admissions chat, I am pretty positive they accept almost all undergrads for the BSN and then to be 2nd degree you either have to be 50 years old or a URM so they can check off their diversity box. Stats have nothing to do with it. If you talk to admissions about your application/why you got rejected they're just going to tell you whatever to get you off their back. Onwards and upwards!

Wow. I'd like to hear the stats of those who had been accepted as a 2nd degree student. Looks like I will have to cross UNC off my list. They appear to be far too picky, even moreso than Duke!

Just to put this out there for 2nd degree applicants: Winston Salem State University offers the program and has a 93% passage rate of the NCLEX compared to UNC's 96%. They also offer to 30 of the 45 students admitted to their program to chance to interview with North Carolina Baptist Hospital who offers fully-paid funding of your nursing degree WITH a monthly stipend of $500 during the 13-month program. Upon completion, you are guaranteed a job offer working at NCBH for the required 3 years in exchange for your free education. More info below:

I just thought I would throw that out there for those who may want to study in NC but believe UNC and Duke are their only options. There are just as good schools in the area and some that are even willing to pay for you to attend. Better yet, you're guaranteed a job offer upon completion of your studies and passage of the NCLEX. Not a bad offer at all, considering all of this will come down to passing the NCLEX and getting a job offer.

Remember, everything happens for a reason! Stay positive.

Mine is not up!? I wonder....I don't want to call and ask because I am sure they can't tell me anything.

I called and asked about how they put up their decisions. They said it is randomized and mine could be posted on MyUNC within the next few days. She mentioned I may get my letter before it is posted online. Hmmm.

Not sure if anyone else actually applied but letters went out yesterday.

Hey! I did not actually apply... If I haven't been accepted to any of tge fall programs I applied to, I might try applying to the accelerated option as I do have my undergrad degree already. I decided not to apply to this years may cohort bc it just would've been too stressful finishing up my class now and moving in may with a husband and 3 kids!!!Have any of you heard anything about NC A&T?

I was accepted! I called and they told me my status would change on MyUNC by Monday. I received my letter first.

Good luck to everyone on your future applications! :)

I personally haven't heard or read anything bad about the school, however, I am concerned about their NCLEX passage rate of 74% in 2011. In 2010, it was 61%.

North Carolina Board of Nursing

Hey guys! I am so thankful I found this forum. Found out yesterday that I was waitlisted. Does anyone know how many people have been waitlisted or how this works? Any news would be great!

I just wanted to add, especially for all those on the wait list, I just got in to UNC's BSN program that starts in May 2012. I originally was informed that I was on the wait list, but yesterday I received an email from the School of Nursing advising me that I had an updated admissions letter available for pickup today. Since I am currently a UNC student, they allow us to pick up our letters before they are mailed.

If you haven't done so already, make an appt to go over your application with the Dean of Admissions. This will show interest and also give you valuable feedback incase you need to reapply.

Good luck to all and GO HEELS!
