  1. Not my impression of Duke at all.. but what do I know? I just work there UNC left me with a bitter taste in my mouth after my interview- and they were my dream hospital. Duke, I'd never seriously considered because I'm an ADN, and I'd heard they only hire Duke grads. My manager works with my school schedule, orientation let me leave to go to class, and I'm able to request whatever days/nights I need off (schedule is currently made 4 weeks in advance, trying to move to 8 weeks). I suspect you're hearing from people unhappy with their floors/hearsay. Rex, only thing I know is a classmate works there - and has worked there as an ED tech during nursing school - and is looking for another job.
  2. Read up on some behavioral interviewing questions, have some stories/experiences to share that may answer some questions (like times when you had a disagreement with a coworker, how you made an unsatisfied person happy.. etc), keep all your answers succinct and make sure they actually answer the question, have questions written down to ask, and let your personality show! Every RN manager is going to ask different things, but they all want a team player who is excited and interested in the unit, and who will make the time/money spent on training them well worth the effort. Good luck!!
  3. I interviewed for Medical Step Down yesterday and got offered a job on the spot! Don't worry though, the recruiter and the manager said there were several positions open
  4. Just wanted to post and let you guys know that I had an interview with Duke yesterday.. and they offered me the job on the spot!! Also found out that one of my classmates is also going to be at DUH, another has an interview in September, and a third was offered a position at Duke Regional.. so KEEP APPLYING!!
  5. Interview is next week! Prepping right now :)
  6. UNC2002, what floor(s) did your classmates accept offers on?
  7. Uconn, if you did not receive an email, the website says you may still be being considered for an interview!
  8. MPCU. Chiboy, what unit did you interview at UNC for?
  9. Ahhh! They finally set my interview for the 15th so I'm on pins and needles and obsessing over what to wear/say/do
  10. Just saw this on the UNC New Grad RN site: "To all of the new graduates who have applied to the Summer/Fall 2014 Residency: The New Graduate Residency Program will be scheduling interviews throughout the spring and summer to fill the 79 positions for new RN graduates. At this time (April 1) 66 candidates have been selected to interview. We anticipate inviting at least 150 candidates out of 664 to interview. Candidates who did not make the first cut for interviews have been notified by email. If you have not yet received one of those emails or, you are not one of the 66 with known interview times, then your application is in review and determination regarding an interview will be forthcoming over the next several weeks. Due to the EPIC implementation at UNC Healthcare, the scheduling of interviews will take longer to coordinate with manager schedules than usual. We ask your patience with our process and do appreciate that this timing may add to your anxiety. We ask that you "hang-in" there with us as we balance completing this important/vital electronic health record implementation with the necessary and equally vital interviewing of new grad candidates."
  11. Flying_Ace2, did the UNC recruiter call you about salary and benefits BEFORE your interview? She is calling me tomorrow to talk about that stuff, but my interview isn't even scheduled yet, and I (and a reference of mine who is an RN at UNC) thought it was kind of weird to talk about that before an offer was made? Just wondering if it's standard now, or if (fingers crossed) the nurse manager REALLY liked my resume/letter of introduction.
  12. That's the most important part - and the hardest. The "thanks, but no thanks" emails my classmates got said 770 resumes for 70 positions, so standing out is HUGE
  13. Thanks! I'll share my secrets.. after I get a job offer
  14. Did anyone also apply to Wake Med and Rex? I've had notifications from 2 floors at Rex that my app was sent to the hiring manager, but nothing yet from Wake Med
  15. Interview offer for UNC this morning, Duke/Duke Regional status says "under recruitment review," but I got an email today from Duke University saying thanks for being patient, we're still going through apps.
