UNC Chapel Hill deadline changed for May 2010

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

I am waiting to hear back for Spring 2010 admission to UNC-Chapel Hill and got an email that there is a new earlier deadline for the May 2010 entry- December 22, 2009. So depressing to already get re-applying info when you haven't heard back yet. Why, oh why is this school not easier to get into?

The email said Spring 2010 applicants would hear toward mid-November. This sounds like an unbelievably short amount of time to accept their offer and line up financial aid. I have been accepted at Duke and have to line up loans for that if Carolina doesn't offer me admission. I hope one month is enough time.

I can't pm until I post 15 messages, so I'll have to post here. I'm sorry! How long after the deadline at Duke did they contact you for an interview, and how long after the interview did you get accepted? The $ is a big thing for me too but I love Duke's program and have some friends in the DNP program there.

And back to UNC, I've seen on several threads that about three people have gotten letters, all accepted in to ABSN. Has anyone else heard anything either way? BSN or ABSN

Carolina 11,

I submitted my application right at the deadline and heard 2-3 days later that I got an interview. The deadline was July 1st and I was accepted Aug. 5. There is not a lot of waiting in the Duke process! :)

mom-So UNC wants to know your answer by Nov 18? That means that the letters have to be on the way. Of course no mail today...I wouldn't be surprised if my mailman gets a restraining order.

Is it just the accelerated program that wants to know by the 18th or both ABSN and BSN?

NYCGyrl-you applied to BSN, right?

I didn't mean to confuse anyone. That was the date on my ABSN offer. I am assuming that when they send the next round of admission letters there will be a later respond by date or they are sending out the letters very, very soon!

NYCGyrl - I posted this on the other thread but thought I would post here as well. I called the Nursing office and they said the "respond/accept" date is Nov 20th for BSN. The lady that I talked to didn't know right away - she had to verify it with somebody before telling me.

That leads me to believe that ABSN was notified before BSN as well as people already hearing about ABSN.

I'm in Cary as well so it shouldn't take very long for me to get the letter. However, with Veterans day being today is making me even crazier since we didn't get the mail today. I so hope it comes tomorrow. It's killing me!

Thanks for all of this information guys! I applied for the BSN program and have been running to the mail every day for the past week! I'm glad to finally get a break from all of the anxiety since the mail doesn't run today! Hopefully we will hear something by Friday, since that only gives us a week to make up our minds. Good luck to everyone :)

I completely forgot the mail wasn't running today. I've been searching online for any other clues to anyone else receiving replies... to no avail. Waiting for an answer to pursue one's goal can be so filled with anxiety, especially when you already know that a number of your friends are sitting pretty at home having already sent their acceptances back to UNC for their ABSN program. Part of me wishes I would have applied for the ABSN, but I also want to partake in the semester abroad offered with the BSN program (not offered with ABSN). Nonetheless, I am happy for them. Very much so.

Best to everyone that have applied. If UNC sent out anything on Friday or Monday, then locally in the RDU area, we should know something by tomorrow (Thursday). I will definitely post something whether I get accepted or not. I hope the former. :)

Yes. I thought the accelerated program would be a bit too much for me to handle. I'm going to be working while doing the program so I feel an extra two semesters would take some of the stress off.

I'm hoping tomorrow is the day. If not, I'll have to pay for a drug test on Friday for Wake Tech. I'm still meeting all their deadlines just in case UNC doesn't come through.

I wasn't aware of the study abroad. That is something I am very interested in. Do you have any details about the location or how they select students?

NYCGyrl - yes, it's during the 2nd Summer. You have the choice of NURS 487 or 489. From my understanding, the 487 is working in a local hospital as a practicum but then 489 is the 'Study abroad" portion of it.

From the course descriptions:

487: Practice in health care settings is the course focus. Students participate in a reflective experience that provides the context to integrate classroom and experiential learning into an evolving professional identify.

489: Practice in International health care settings is the course focus. Students participate in a reflective experience that provides the context to integrate classroom and experiential learning into an evolving professional identity.

I know the descriptions don't really say much other than "International" but they had mentioned this at one of the information sessions. Hope this helps.
