Hi everyone! I just thought I'd start the new State forums off with an introduction thread. Please feel free to reply to this thread if you wish. Otherwise, feel free to start a new topic if you wish to discuss other topics that are local or state related. Enjoy!

hello- I am an ER/ortho FNP with many years of ER nursing in various states prior to my FNP. I live & work as an FNP in Asheville- I graduated from the WCU FNP program 1.5 years ago. I love WNC & plan to never leave (relocated here 8+ years ago). This is my dream-come-true place to live.

nice to meet ya'll!

and NOW how about those Panthers?!

(actually I am more of a baseball fan, but I am trying to show some state spirit... :p )

Specializes in Cath Lab, OR, CPHN/SN, ER.

HI...Andrea here, ADN student in Greenville, NC. Graduate May 2005, moving to Wilmington from there to pursue MSN or BSN program. Grew up about 10 miles from Hickory, moved here to go to school, ended up at community college. I like it so much better! I am an EMT, working for a medical transport company. I love my job, but it's too high-stress and low pay. And the job market is horrible for emt's! Anyways, nice to join ya!

Specializes in Emergency, Outpatient.

Hi, everyone! I have been a RN for 18 years and currently enrolled in UNCG master's program, education track. Adria

Welcome to the board Adria - it is nice to have you here. I am sure you will meet many wonderful people as you browse through the message board. ENJOY! :balloons:

Athena~ Have you applied at Haywood Regional Hospital in Waynesville, NC? It's about 30 minutes or so from Missions Hospital. That's where I work and I love it! Many of the people who work there with me actually left Missions to work at Haywood. missions is a great hospital, I just think that Haywood is smaller and more personal. Haywood's website is http://www.haymed.org and you can follow a link on their website that shows openings. Also call their human resources department, the people there are really helpful and may know of an opening not listed on the website. I hope you feel better about this. Remember, God never closes a door without opening another.

hi :)

is this forum for nursing students too??

i'm currently taking pre-reqs for the ADN program at wake tech in raleigh...hopefully i'll be admitted to the program in january, but with the huge waiting list, there's just no telling.

great website!! :)

Hi! I'm currently at Western Carolina University in the nursing program and I love it. I actually am from Raleigh...plan on going back as soon as I walk across the stage and get my degree!! I remember that Wake Tech has a great nursing program.

I am always excited to talk with someone from back home. Did y'all get a lot of ice? My mom said everyone was laying out of work like they did last week. Well, I hope to get to talk to ya more...and don't worry about nursing school...if you don't get in, maybe you could go for your CNA to work until you get accepted. Vance Granville Community college has a good program too I've heard. Best of luck, I'll keep you in my prayers. It seems like it takes forever to hear from school when you're waiting on acceptance into the program! Keep your chin up!! :) and feel free to email me!

Hey fellow NC nurses:

my name is Crissy and i am currently in Wilmington NC. I am a new RN but have been an LPN for 4 years. I work on a Stepdown unit at the local hospital - I absolutely love pulmonary nursing!

I am also new to this website and so far It's great! The introduction idea was a good one. I look forward to talking with all of you.

.........as a side note ......

Isabel has landed and minimal damage to eastern NC was sustained considering what could have been. good luck to those of you who haven't yet dealt with her.

Rock you like a hurricane!!!!!

Hey, would you mind if we email each other about working there? I have done alot of research on the area and New Hanover and Cape Fear. But I still have alot of questions and concerns. my address is [email protected]

I am an ADN student in New Bern. Working as a CNA II occasionally at Craven Regional Med Center. ANyone else close by?

This is for the guy that is interested in psych nursing. I would love to talk to you as soon as you graduate or before. I am the Nurse Recruiter at Cherry Hospital in Goldsboro. We are one of the state psych facilities so we have the state benefits. You really don't need to get a year of med surg before you come. We have a good training program and we also have a medical unit that you can get experience on.

Maybe I will be seeing you. :) I attend Craven and we do our 5th semester (the fall) Psych rotation at Cherry.

Hi!

My name is Jen and I am an ADN student in Fayetteville, NC. I graduate in May 2004 and soon after will start an online BSN program at UNC-Wilmington. I hope to work in the ICU after graduation and then attend CRNA school in the future. I am a military wife with no children, except my "furkids" Bud (basset hound), Sam (bunny) and Lola (BIG bunny- over 9lbs!). It would be nice to talk to other NC nurses. Hope we can get some good discussions going. Hope everyone has a great week!

~ Jen

Hey Jen,

I just graduated from UNC-W with my BSN and I wanted to wish you good luck. That bunch can be crazy and unorganized so just be patient and stick with it. Good luck!

Amy, RN-BSN

I'm baaaaaaaaaaaack !!! your Va. neighbor ... BUT... am beginning orientation to medsurge at a "smallish" rural hopsital in NC next month to enable me to work there PRN status along with my current employment in dialysis here in Va. In the process of obtaining my NC licensure by endorsement... so now does that legitimize my sharing your NC forum with you guys? I do love having the best of both worlds! :D

Hi,

I was just going to ask for you opinion on dialysis. I am really interested in that area, and I just took a new job on a renal/med/surg floor where they do PD with a specific area for HD. I was just wondering if you got burnt out fast? Any advice would be great! Thanks!

Amy RN-BSN

Hi Y'all

Im finishing up my ADN program in NY and am going to move to Hickory next summer. Any advice out there?

I Love NC

Jeff

:p

Hickory is great!! I grew up about 40 mins away from there in Wilkesboro. That entire area is beautiful. Good luck!!
