Hi everyone! I just thought I'd start the new State forums off with an introduction thread. Please feel free to reply to this thread if you wish. Otherwise, feel free to start a new topic if you wish to discuss other topics that are local or state related. Enjoy!

I am a RN, been one for 18 years, looking to move to Greensboro area. Hope to hear from other nurses in area. Hi Elenaster and Jnette.
Hi Barefoot ! :)
Greensboro is about an hour or a little more from where I live...
(figuring in the drive off the mountain, y'know). From what I gather, nurses are wanted everywhere in the vicinity ! Then there's Elkin, where I work, which is more rural and the hospital is a small 200 bed facility, but they are expanding and building to add more surgical suites as well as a much larger radiology dept. with the newest in radiology equipment. Very friendly hospital... ppl are really NICE. And yes, we're hiring. But I'm just not a city person, (except for special occasions)..so this works fine for me. Elenaster is in the general area, she might be more up on what's available... wish you much luck and success... when ya movin'?
Hi Barefoot! Hi Jnette! Welcome to everyone!
I haven't been around in a few days, but I thought I'd check in. I live in the Piedmont Triad area and there are many hospitals hiring. I can give you a quick rundown of the area hospitals and can probably give you links to their employment sites.
Winston-Salem:
Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center - big Level I Trauma Center. Tons of referrals and transfers from outlying hospitals. 850 beds, 7 adult ICUs, CCU, Burn unit, PICU, NICU, Brenner Childrens. No obstetrical services.
Forsyth Memorial- Large private hospital (900 beds). OB, lots of invasive cardiology. Nice oncology unit from what I've heard.
Greensboro:
Moses Cone- Large private network of hospitals including a Women's Hospital.
High Point:
High Point Regional - Mid-size private. All private rooms, swanky inpt. psych unit.

Good luck in your job search!
I have just discovered this forum. Hope to meet lots of new friends. I have been a nurse for 27 years, most of it in NC. Greenville is my home, and where I live now. I work for ECU School of Medicine, Division of Cardiology. I was very discouraged and disillusioned with nursing when I changed to the office setting with ECU....best thing I ever did. Wish I'd found this job 20 years ago!!
For those of you who have expressed interest in ECU, here is the website: www.ecu.edu. If you're interested in employment with ECU, go to the 'prospective employees' link. There is a hiring freeze at the moment, but hopefully that will change soon. You should be able to find most anything you want to know about ECU on the site. For Greenville info not included on ECU's site, go to Yahoo.com ==>US states ==>North Carolina and search for Greenville. Our local newspaper is The Daily Reflector, and may be accessed by website: www.reflector.com.
Hope someone posts again soon. Nice to meet all of you...
i enjoyed reading your messages. Im new here in US, I am newly wer and my husband is a nurse here in Florida, thats why we are here but Im thinking of moving to other state.By the way Im also a nurse working in Jacksson Memorial. As I can see in your conversations, it seems Carolina is a great place. I would love to live i a place with beautiful scenery like mountains and to work in a good hospital as well, I heard working in a government or public hospital is better that any other, is that true?
I will greatly appreciate any kind of information and advice coming from all of you. Thanks! :kiss
Hi all ... I am a nursing student who lives in Charlotte. I am 37, mother of 3 and hope to graduate in 2006. I am a CNA now and am starting in the healthcare field after spending 13 years in Journalism. I am excited about the change, but a bit nervous since I am an older student ... it will be hard to study with kids underfoot ... I am still looking forward to 2006!
Hi everyone!
I'm originally from MS, but fell in love with the piedmont area when we moved 3 yrs. ago. I'm planning to start my pre-reqs for an ADN this summer if all goes well, so I'm a total newbie. I think I'll be a little ahead of the game (for pre-reqs) since I already have a BA degree. But you never know of course. I'll also be one of those "non-traditional" students making the career change.
I would love to hear from anyone with info. on CPCC. Thanks!
Kathy
GO PANTHERS!!!
Hello everyone!!
I have been perusing this and a few other forums and let me just
say that its such a relief to find one where we all have something
in common, NC!! :) Go Panthers!! St. Louis down, Eagles to go!!
I guess I am what some people call "switching career tracks".
I already have a B.S.B.A. in computer information systems and
worked as a computer consultant/programmer for just under 3 years at a company mainly dealing with banks such as BofA.
Due to the downturn in the economy I had to make some
tough choices so I made them and now I work at retail store
and am going back to school.
My brothers already an RN and soon 2B BSN and then CRNA!! :) who is helping me with great advice and he's helped me along especially with time frames...man I would have had to wait another semester or 2 if I didn't realize I had to get certain paperwork in time to signup for CNA I course (these are in demand!!!)
Well I can say now I've recently enrolled in a CNA I course and am due to start with 2 weeks and finish in 5 months.
If everything goes to plan, in 3 years I will have my BSN.
Well, I think I've written too much already...i hope to get to talk to some of you in the future!
If you have any tips, I'm always open to suggestions!
Hi. My name is Daniel. I'm new to this forum. I'm a Nursing student at WCU. I plan to get my BSN and then move on for a MSN-PNP. I love kids and I know that I wanna work with them in my career. I just hope I can make it that far. The difficulty of this program is starting to beat me down. I also am dabbling in EMC as well so that is a fall back, but I want more than anything to be a nurse. I must get it from my mom. She is a BSN School Nurse. Anyways. Hope to make some good friends here. Later y'all.:)

for Barefootlady and some of the others looking for positions in NC. One option would be for you to sign on to a travel agency and try several places. Not only do you get some good experience, but the money they get for housing, etc is great. Or, try the state web site for NC - osp.state.nc.us/jobs and see what you find. Especially for the older nurses that haven't planned for the future, get in with the state retirement system and for you young ones just starting out, it would be pretty nice to retire at age 50 - 55 with the state.
