So my mom is in the hospital with cardio renal syndrome and went into esrd. She started hemodialysis while in ccu and became rigid and non responsive. About 10 hours later she was able to answer yes/no but today she had another episode and is not talking at all. A ct was done to rule out a stroke and it was negative. It’s been about 15 hours and she is still non verbal and can’t follow commands. Her neck is hyper extended and no movements except to yawn She won’t even blink. I asked if she had a hypotension episode and they said no. She also has DIC and idiopathic thrombocytopenia with worsening liver function as well. Any ideas?

For those who are charge nurses at DaVita: Do you get extra cash/hour for "charge nurse pay"?

What? I wish I could get the SOC Oasis done in 45 minutes! lol, The Oasis C takes alot longer right now, however; our agency requires alot of other forms, around 8 in addition to the Oasis C.

I was wondering if any of you would mind telling me where you get your nursing bags to tote all your equiptment and supplies for your visits? First one I bought when I started home health last year was a laptop bag I got at the local Walmart, I think I got the biggest one they had, but now I want something smaller and more effiecient to take with me. Was hoping to gain some insight from the fellow nurses on what works best for you. Look forward to any suggestion you have. Thanks!

The same actually, but the mileage and on call is all extra so I guess it's actually much more than the floor.

About 35-50 minutes for me. Although the "administation know it alls" want us to see many more than we should each day, so it's hard. End up working through lunch plus overtime. How about you?

Too old?? Sometimes, I wonder if it's old enough. You have to have a certain maturity level to deal with all the stress and demands that come along with nursing. I could go on for hours giving countless examples to prove a point, but in light of the few precious moments I have off of work, I chose to only respond to your question: No, 26 is not too old to go back to school. At first I thought I would sit back and read the responses to the ridicualous inquiry. However, what you wrote had me to respond. Nurses who can hardly walk, from "neglecting" themselves? Maybe if the nurses with the "beauty" would come out from applying their lipstick they wouldn't be running up and down the halls without the help. Why do you think the overwieght nurse is thought of as disabled, yet a thin nurse is thought of as beauty? Last shift I worked patients weren't there to get a date, they were there for treatment.

I hear ya, things sure are different now. Only problem is, unless you want to work in a nursing home, there isn't any where else to work, unless you feel like driving 3+ hours a day on top of your 12 hour work day. (which nowdays with the take over is more like 15 hour days) And don't think you don't get chewed out for working OT, like we choose to be away from our homes and family!

I think bariatrics is a growing specialty, people have ignored alot of aspects of the morbidly obese too long, such as : Regular standard hospital beds only hold a weight limit of something around 280 lbs (not sure on the exact wt), the one-size fits all gowns- alot of people require two and their sleeves can act as a tourniquet for these pateints. Ever seen anyone bust a regular plastic bedpan? Their dignity can be stripped to the core. I agree that there should be more counseling and support for those considering or who have had these surgeries, I don't think anyone has these surgeries because they are lazy , perhaps the guidelines should be more strict in some facilities such as a certain BMI or something. Anyway, just my opinion. I would love to see a floor dedicated to this in our hospital. Patients travel 2 hours at another facility for this surgery and their support groups.

Our hospital was once owned by Province, however, recently the entire company was sold to Life Point. Management hasn't told us the first thing yet, we had to hear it from our local/gossip station, which we checked Life Points website where it mentioned the sale. I am curious to know what we can expect from this new company. If anyone has any information please let me know. Sincerely, left in the dark
