Introductions

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Hi everyone! I just thought I'd start the new State forums off with an introduction thread. Please feel free to reply to this thread if you wish. Otherwise, feel free to start a new topic if you wish to discuss other topics that are local or state related. Enjoy!

Hi ,I work in the Raleigh area and there are lots of openings here for nurses, come on down! You can check out the openings on the "www.newsobserver.com" the local newpaper. The Sunday edition is the best to check. Lots of luck. deb

There are jobs here, but in areas with a high turn over rate. One personal ritual of mine is looking at the job section in the Sunday paper, whether I am actually looking or not. There is also a website called triadcareers.com.

I live in the piedmont triad area. The hospitals are very stressful right now. I have noticed a few vacation packages and sign on bonuses as an incentive. Some of them pay on a scale, based on experience.

My personal experience is a lot of poor management. There have been quiet a few instances I have been working under that seems like there are too many chiefs, and not enough indians. A lot of nurses, are taking the paperwork job route instead of busting their tails out on a hall. In a way, I can't blame them...but my calling is a staff nurse. Somebody has to take care of the people!?

I have been a nurse for 12 years and only worked in this area. I feel like I have fairly good nursing judgement and skills, but I have been in some situations where I have felt overwhelmed with my assignment. Management just grins and waves when they walk by. Then they wonder why we can't get/keep help.

Don't mean to be cynical. Just tellin' ya like it is.

Thanks so much for all of the advice. I know there is lots more crime in N.C. than here in WV, but I really need a change. I too have been the position of feeling like I am drowning, and no one there to throw me a life line. I think these new generation x nurses are great, except when it comes to follow through. They want to do the task as quickly as possible, not always as throughly as needs to be done. I am amazed at the way they refuse to do routine tasks and get away with it. I have been working with a group of nurses who have refused to start IV's. insert NG tubes, or do foley's ot tke patients with possible infectious diseases. I need to find out if it is like this everywhere or just in my area. If it is, then I truly need to look for another type of nursing. Thanks for the ear.

Hey fellow NC nurses:

my name is Crissy and i am currently in Wilmington NC. I am a new RN but have been an LPN for 4 years. I work on a Stepdown unit at the local hospital - I absolutely love pulmonary nursing!

I am also new to this website and so far It's great! The introduction idea was a good one. I look forward to talking with all of you.

.........as a side note ......

Isabel has landed and minimal damage to eastern NC was sustained considering what could have been. good luck to those of you who haven't yet dealt with her.

Rock you like a hurricane!!!!!

Hi Crissy

Glad you faired well w/ Isabel!

Here in North Charlotte was gusty winds and some showers.

Heard from daughter in Greensboro today. She says it is not as bad as predicted from the strom. Sure am glad everybody came through safe. Plan to do some real job hunting after the 29th, keep your positive thoughts coming my way. Thanks all.

My personal experience is a lot of poor management]

I agree with this wholeheartedly. Yet, I have been in management and I cannot completely blame the DON at my facility. The higher-ups have so much sayso about the things they do not personally deal with. There is such a difference in knowing what makes a place tick and being one of the folks that makes it tick......do I make sense?

Money is usually the basis of all the evil--problems---is most of the cases.

hey barefoot lady !!!

If you like going barefoot you should come down to North Carolina - we have alot of WV people in Wilmington NC. Level 2 trauma center and we are in need of some good experienced nurses- plus we have the beautiful BEACHES!!!!! were you can go barefoot almost all year long. Check out NHHN.org. you can apply and view vancant positions online

Hope you come on down!!!

Thanks cg6303,

Have to really get cracking on a job. I have some places in mind in WS/Asheboro area. Family is close to there. I will let everyone know how it's going. Keep those positive thoughts coming my way. Have a great day all.

Hello GLD, how in the world do you contend with the traffic every day from GNBO to WS? Came down yesterday and it was a night mare. Heard some good things about Moses Cone, do you or any body on this board know anything about them?
