Introductions

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Hi everyone! I just thought I'd start the new State forums off with an introduction thread. Please feel free to reply to this thread if you wish. Otherwise, feel free to start a new topic if you wish to discuss other topics that are local or state related. Enjoy!

I actually am very interested in CRNA. I think it would be the most challenging profession I could possibly enter. The thing is I'm a little on the fence about the time and commitment that the program requires because I don't feel it would be fair to my family right now.

Lately, I've been thinking about the nurse educator program. I really think I would enjoy teaching and it would afford me the flexibility to stay at the bedside in critical care, as well as spend adequate time with my family. I also think that down the road I could apply to the CRNA as a post-MSN student.

Since there are no ACNP programs close by, and I feel that NPs are grossly underutilized in this area, I'm not too interested in the NP programs.

Thanks for responding and for the welcome.:)

Hi, I'm Chris, and I'm working on getting my pre-requisites out of the way so I can start nursing school. It's going to be a long road since I work full time (and then some), but I'm in no hurry. I'm just glad to be pursuing something that I actually may enjoy.

My girlfriend is an OR nurse in the Triangle area.

are you a nurse or just thinking about becoming one" tilleycs"

Hi y'all!!! Just want to introduce myself. I'm a relatively new nursing instructor (ADN) in a small NC community college. Before that, worked med-surg, L & D, newborn, and cardiac. Out of them all, L & D and cardiac are my favorites!

Hi all

I graduated in May 03 from a ADN program. I'm already looking into schools for my BSN. Thinking about online RN-BSN. Have any of you went this route? Heard about? Would love some input!

Thanks

I'm baaaaaaaaaaaack !!! your Va. neighbor ... BUT... am beginning orientation to medsurge at a "smallish" rural hopsital in NC next month to enable me to work there PRN status along with my current employment in dialysis here in Va. In the process of obtaining my NC licensure by endorsement... so now does that legitimize my sharing your NC forum with you guys? I do love having the best of both worlds! :D

Sure Jnette! I love SW Virginia, it is so picturesque. I have driven that Blue Ridge Parkway more times than I can count in the past year and those mountains are stunning.

I hope your new job in NC goes well and I hope you get your license quickly. The NC BON can be a little sticky about things.

Just found this forum, as I tend to read alot more than I post. It'll be nice to have "locals" to bounce ideas off of. I live in Charlotte and am the clinical supervisor in a 7-provider physician office. I've been an RN for 22 years, graduated from a diploma school (Presbyterian Hospital SON here in Charlotte, if there are any alums out there!), and can't think of any career I could ever love as much as being a nurse. I'm also a military wife, have two daughters, and am totally content to be here in Carolina!

Thanx Elenaster !

So in what way is the NC BON "sticky"? I was planning on doing this online... htey say they give you a "temporary" 6 mo. licence, while your permanent one is being processed. The fee is a bit steep, I think, too, plus an added $38.00 just for the criminal background check. I guess I COULD wait 'til next year when Va. is a compact state, but that won't be 'til the END of next year at the earliest... guess I'll just do it now.

Yeppers, I love these beautiful mts., too ! So peaceful. So "aaaaaaaaaaaahh...."

And hello, Mommy6 !!! Welcome ! Charlotte is pretty kool.. I always fly out of Charlotte when I travel. :)

Is there a nursing shortage in NC? Or just sucky nursing jobs? Am thinking of moving there. Already have license. Any good tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey Barefootlady,

There is a nursing shortage here, but I think it really depends on what area you work in. I work ICU in a big teaching hospital and our unit is almost fully staffed. However, the enitre hosptial has a 5% vacancy rate for RNs at this time. What area of NC are you thinking of? I heard they're building a new hospital in the Outer Banks!

Thank you so much for the reply Elenaster. No special place in mind yet and not much luck looking on the web. Was told for so long that N.C. was a great place for nursing jobs. Now I am beginning to think that was all just hype. Have med/surg, ortho, psych, and some peds experience. Some tele, about 3 years. Am ACLS certified, have current cpr card, and etc. So far no luck. Any suggestions?
