  1. Stress eating!!!!!!!!! I absolutely love food now- especially since i work nights- I find trying to stay awake and focused that food and caffeine go a long way. But, nurses have to learn to balance themselves with exercise (which i have recently found) it really does help -I am much less tired and I have yet to gain those infamous pounds your talking about. I totatlly recommend adding some kind of exercise to your weekly schedule. Its great for your mind and your body!!!
  2. I had such a wonderful experience in mother/baby and peds as an LPN student but when I did my RN (at a much larger facility) I saw so many children of drug addicted parents and I saw many of those same parents allowed to come in and hold those poor babies- this infuriated me and I actually had to leave the area to avoid making a comment! I am not good at holding my tongue when I see something so wrong....I decided at that point that i wouldn't be a good peds or ob nurse much to my dismay because i love children and I really thought it was my calling!
  3. I work on a medical tele/ stepdown unit in a fairly large Level 2 trauma center and the MD writes orders-secretary takes off orders and enters them into computer or faxes to pharmacy- but we have computerized MAR's that pharmacy sends out every evening - the primary nurse must check that the orders were entered into computer by secretary correctly and also must check computerized MAR's at night with 12 hr chart check to ensure pharmacy was correct in their interpretation of the MD's handwriting. Its a lot of work for each shift but we have noted a decrease in errors with the computerized med sheets vs. handwritten. I think still that the doctors should have to PRINT instead of being "fancy" and that transcription errors would decrease further- this is yet to be seen!!!!!!:)
