Anyone applying to ABSN at WSSU for Jan 2011

U.S.A. North Carolina

I'm applying to the ABSN program at WSSU this August to start in January 2011. Anyone joining me?

Yes, you can enroll in Intro to Professional Nursing I without being admitted into the nursing program. You do have to be admitted to the university though. Again, I don't know the GPAs of my fellow classmates so I just don't know if you have a good shot at being accepted.

Winston Salem State University Nursing Students Out There???? Traditional or ABSN...

I am relocating to North Carolina, and am interested in applying for all the ABSN programs for 2012 admission. Can anyone tell me where are nice, family oriented, safe, good school towns near Winston Salem in case I end up being accepted? Thanks so much:) We have already toured the Raleigh area but not sure if I have a shot at Duke or Chapel Hill's programs.

I am considering applying for Spring 12 too. I have got into everywhere I have applied but have only applied to CC and would rather fast track it to my Bachelors if possible. The problem is I am planning on starting a program this Fall... and I won't hear if I was accepted into WSSU accelerated program until Oct, I believe (but that is after my semester will have already started). Wish they could tell me sooner... I would just wait and take the Intro class in the Fall at WSSU. :( Have you heard what your chances are of acceptance?? Any suggestions?

Carshell, I would highly recommend the Kernersville area. The school system is still Forsyth County, but they have very good ratings for the EOG's. In addition, you are able to select the school where you want your children to attend, and to my understanding, they will provide transportation if necessary. The only catch is that the school must have space available, which I haven't heard of an issue to date.

For everyone: Intro to Prof Nursing I can be taken after all science requirements have been fulfilled. I have been told by word of mouth that Intro I can only be taken in the Fall unless you are actually in the Accelerated Prgm, but have not confirmed so I don't know how true that is.

Just a few pointers from someone in the program. You already have to have a bachelors to get into the program. If this is the first degree for you, you don't qualify for the program, but you can still apply for the traditional program.

Also, acceptance letters are sent out in early October but you may not know about funding until December or so. Taking Intro I in the fall is not a program requirement. You have the opportuntiy to take it the first five weeks of the program along with two other classes. The benefit to taking it in advance is that you have the first five weeks to concentrate on 2 classes instead of three but the benefit to those who are funded is that the class will be paid for by Baptist if you take it in the spring with the other classes. I think that a classmate said it cost about $1000 to take intro in the fall. Either way, the first 10 weeks of the program are pretty packed full of studying so it just depends on your study habits.

Also, if you are not flexible, this is not the program for you. Your schedule is changed all the time and you will be expected to change along with it. Just something to think about and prepare for.

3kidsMomk, Thanks for your response. This will be my second degree. I have a BSBA from UNCC. I just wish the acceptance letters would be here before Fall semester started. I would love to wait till Spring to start the ABSN (and work till then and save more $$):(

What do they look at? Undergrad GPA, and prenursing grades? anything else?

Thanks Called2care!

I am not really sure what they look at. I think that as long as you have the required undergrad GPA of 2.6, then they put emphasis on your nursing pre-recs. I am not sure how everyone else did in these areas so your best bet is to meet with ****. She can give you a clearer idea.

I can tell you that you probably will not know anything early ever while in the program. Like I stated before the ABSN students must be flexible! If you are flexible and self motivated then it is an excellent program.

I am going to enroll in NUR 2310 this Fall 2011. Can you enlighten me as to how this class is... Also, will I need all of the recommeded/suggested textbooks? Any insight you provide will be helpful.
