Anyone applying to ABSN at WSSU for Jan 2011

I'm applying to the ABSN program at WSSU this August to start in January 2011. Anyone joining me?

Just a few pointers from someone in the program. You already have to have a bachelors to get into the program. If this is the first degree for you, you don't qualify for the program, but you can still apply for the traditional program.

Also, acceptance letters are sent out in early October but you may not know about funding until December or so. Taking Intro I in the fall is not a program requirement. You have the opportuntiy to take it the first five weeks of the program along with two other classes. The benefit to taking it in advance is that you have the first five weeks to concentrate on 2 classes instead of three but the benefit to those who are funded is that the class will be paid for by Baptist if you take it in the spring with the other classes. I think that a classmate said it cost about $1000 to take intro in the fall. Either way, the first 10 weeks of the program are pretty packed full of studying so it just depends on your study habits.

Also, if you are not flexible, this is not the program for you. Your schedule is changed all the time and you will be expected to change along with it. Just something to think about and prepare for.

I am registered totake the Intro Class this fall 2011. However, in the past whenever I received a booklist for a course, half of the textbooks were not used. Will I need to buy every book on the booklist? Also, what is the course like? Does it consist of nurtrition, the basics, etc?

Hey,

I am enrolled for NUR 2310 this fall. Just wanted to know about all the required text books. In the past I have purchased text books that were not even used. We will use all the texts? Or is it more note taking?

Just curious as to what you personally had to get into the program. I am worried and fretting about getting in and I have NO patience! I have a 3.36 GPA from undergrad from WSSU and a BS in the sciences. I am currently taking the Developmental Psych class and it will be finished in December. They told me that was fine and would not be held against me. I hope thats true! My only issue is that I went to UNCC for 2 years and did horrible! So my GPA, if looked at overall, is only a 2.9. You think I will be out of luck??

You definitely need the textbook (potter & perry), the skills lab book, and the APA book.

Not sure ErinJane1 - you'll just have to wait & see. Sorry, that's not what you wanted to hear.

Hey, can you tell me about the schedule of classes...as i am thinking of commuting from Hickory.

We have students commuting from Mocksville, Charlotte, High Point, Burlington, Greensboro, etc. The first block of classes (10 wks long) had classes on Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri. We usually have Mondays off, unless we have a rare clinical day scheduled then. When you start clinicals, they are usually 12 hr days from 6a - 6p. Those days are harder on the commuting folks.

For classes do you have clinicals? Do you have 12 hour clinicals more than once a week?

Yes, usually two 12 hr days/week.

IF accepted, I guess I will have to find a place to stay or someone to room with. I applied for Spring 2012. I am going assume that you do not have clinical with each class. IF not can you tell me what NUR classes you do have clinical with.

I have applied for Spring 2012 as well. I am nervous about getting in due to gpa. I Just graduated from UNCC in May with a CJ degree. I have all my pre-reqs. Now we WAIT.......! Good Luck all!
