Anyone applying to ABSN at WSSU for Jan 2011

I'm applying to the ABSN program at WSSU this August to start in January 2011. Anyone joining me?

I applied for financial aid. I wanted to apply for a student loan to help me pay for other expenses, in additon to school- since we can't work during this program. Is that allowed. If we get funding for the tuition + books, can we still get a loan to help us pay for living expenses?

Also, it's been 2 weeks since I've applied to Financial Aid. Am I supposed to call them back to get this going or will they call me? This is all a little confusing (and darn it I wish Baptist would hurry up with their funding decision- this is torture.)

Vanynessa, you need to log onto Banner Rams online and go to financial aid and check under eligibility then fin aid document requirements to make sure they say you have everything you need turned in and fill out because I waited 2 weeks before I found out that my fin aid hadn't been processed because I needed to turn something in. They aren't going to call you, you have to go online and check things out and/or actually go into the office. If they have awarded you any money it would be under fin aid then award. As far as having fin aid loans to go along with the scholarship, im not sure. When fin aid figures out your expenses and everything they'll calculate your "need" and I think that's the limit to the amount of financial aid you can get for school year total. So they'd just give you a loan that will take you up to your limit. But if baptist were to write the scholarship out to the student and not send it to the school, then you could get more loans. That's how the fin aid worked before, but I'm not 100% on how it changes for this situation. Hope this helps a little.

Thanks so much bmkelsey! Thanks to you I logged on and it looks like it's all right there in my banner rams profile. They've prepared what I need, now I just have to read the fine print. I'm glad I didn't wait for them to call!

Just got notification that I will be funded! Hopefully everyone else did too! This is going to be so great. Now I just need to find flexible childcare because the person I had lined up is not going to work out. If anyone knows of someone that would be flexible about hours and days (I only need someone from noon until we are done with class or clinicals) I would love to consider them. Congratulations to all who will be funded!

Me too! I rec'd the scholarship as well! I am so relieved!

Thankgoodness!! I thought I was going to have to wait and bite my nails all weekend waiting to hear. I got the scholarship too, yay!!! Congratulations everyone who knows so far!! :nurse:

I'm considering applying for next year's ABSN program. I was curious about everyone's backgrounds, both academically and professionally to evaluate my chances at getting in. I'm finishing up my bachelor's in Bio with a 3.3 ish GPA. I have my CNA, but no experience with it yet. Just trying to see what my odds are at getting in to this program...it sounds so attractive!

Congratulations to you all for making it in :) And receiving the scholarship from Baptist!!!

Alliegem,

Our class is very diverse with students from many different backgrounds. As long as you have all your prerequisites then you should apply. I'm not sure what the avg GPA is of our students. You should make an appt w/ Ms. Garrison at the school to go over your transcripts. I also HIGHLY recommend that you take NUR 2310 - Intro to Professional Nursing I next Fall. Then you won't have to take it in the 1st 5 weeks of the accelerated program.

Hi,

I also reside in CLT and I am interested in the ASBN program at WSSU. I met with Mrs. "G" and she evaluated my transcript. I was advised that I have completed all pre-requisites. However, my undergrad GPA is not that competitive ( I was a lot younger then)... However, when I went back to complete my pre-nursing classes (sciences, etc.) I did rather well (A's and B's). I am applying for the Spr 2012. Is there any hope. Do you know anyone who was accepted with a lower undergrad GPA but good grades in the pre-nursing courses?

I mean ABSN program...

I really don't know the GPAs of my classmates. Go ahead & apply! I HIGHLY advise you take Intro to Professional Nursing I this coming fall. If you're accepted into the accelerated program than this is 1 less class you'd have to take. It'll make your first 5 wks of the program SO MUCH better.

Thank You so much. Also, I stated that I was applying for Jan 2011, I meant to say Jan 2012. I will apply, however, do you think I may have a chance with a undergrad GPA of 2.5 but in all my pre-nursing courses (chem, A&P, Stat...) I have A & B 's. Lastly, are you saying that I can take Professional Nursing I without being enrolled or accepted into their nursing program?
