What should I do - Nassau Community College

U.S.A. New York

Published

I am currently at Nassau Community College. I was working towards my pre-reqs for nursing. I only have one class left. I applied for the fall semester and was rejected. Since I only have one more pre-req and I really need to get going on getting some sort of degree should I continue working towards the liberal arts degree? My biggest fear is not getting accepted and I am stuck. I attended SUNY Old Westbury and have a bunch of credits from there but nothing appeals to me. The credits from Old Westbury do not really go towards a specific major since I was always changing my major. I just feel like I have wasted so much time and I finally decide what I want to do and now I cannot get into the program. My choices are pretty limited due to financial restraints.

Sometimes I just want to give it all up and try to find a decent paying job so I can support myself. That would be just settling and I have done that my whole life. I plan on staying at NCC for at least another year and if I do not get in I will have to rethink my future goals.

Enough rambling - my main question is: Should I work towards the liberal arts degree so maybe I can at least get a liberal arts degree and then go on from there?

Thanks

I have to say I made it this January and ITS NO JOKE! Of course I was so excited to get in and I felt like a big shot! Well now I have dwindled into nothing haha! I recommend not having a job! It is too stressful.. You WILL give your self a heart attack! oh yeah AND GO OVER YOUR MATH SKILLS. I am 28 and I have only taken 2 math courses at NCC.. both with calculator use! Well in the nursing program you DONT get to use a calculator! So on my first practice math nursing test I FAILED!! oh yeah AND YOU CAN NEVER BE ABSENT! Any other questions feel free to send them over!

Congratulations MoonMovingSoul! Nassau is definitely much harder than I thought it would be. In regards to the math test, I'm sure in lab that your professor goes through many practice questions. What I did before each math exam, is do the questions over and over until nausea. Believe it or not, I got use to not using a calculator anymore. Remember that every semester, the first day of school you have to take the math exam. I'm a senior now, and can't wait to graduate! Best of luck!

Okay so is 203 the hardest? haha I need to hear more from someone in the last semester!

I would have to say that 105 was the hardest semester for me. It was all downhill from there. I am now in 204 (last semester) and it is still tough but waaaayyyyy waaaaaayyyyyyyyyy easier than the first 2 semesters. :)

CHECK.. so basically if I think its bad now 105 and 203 is going to give me a heart attack... HAHA Actually this isnt THAT bad if I really think about it using my CRITICAL thinking!:yeah:

I think 103/104 (now it's called 101) was bad - but only because of the professor I had. Then 105 was the worst. I can't believe I made it through that. 203 and 204 are a breeze compaired to those 2 classes. But a breeze in bursing school standards is still hard. lol. I guess by the time you get to 203/204 you get it so that makes it easier.

I know what teacher you had@!! Can you guess why! heh!:angryfire

I bet I could guess what professor you had for 103/104.

I'm finishing up 105 and it's definitely harder than 101, but only because you're really expected to understand and apply INTEGRATED content, not just one thing, one focus etc. For example, if you're talking about tissue perfusion on your patient with a PMH of DM and PVD, you need to also talk about adequate blood glucose management rather than just focusing on the PVD.

I have learned a great deal and grown a great deal during 105, but I really hope you all are right in saying that 203/204 are easier!
