Stony Brook Nursing Basic BSN Fall 2013 applicants

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hey guys! So I just applied to the SBU Basic (2 year) program a couple of days ago. I thought it would be nice to start a forum. Feel free to ask any questions! And good luck to all who are applying!!!

Hi

Does anyone know where the Fall 2014 forum is? I see one that only has a few posts, is that the correct one?

Hey! I am in the program now, I just started this past fall...good luck! it truely is a great program and the faculty are just amazing; they are so supportive and knowledgeable. I honestly cant say one bad thing about the program..

Although, It is GRUELING and TOUGH...your first semester you will take 24 credits..which is crazy, but doable lol..

Good luck to you all..it is a very stressful process and we didnt find out untill May 10th about getting into the program...many of my classmates, as well as myself, put a down payment on another program because deadlines were passing, we had not found out yet, and we were afraid if we didnt get in what we were going to do.

My advice: put your all into your entrance paper, I literally spent weeks on mine. Really emphasize WHY you want to be a nurse and your future career goals in the healthcare field. Comment on your positive attributes and how that applies to nursing. Also, make sure your reccomendations are from someone that knows you more than grades in a book...that professor that you got extra help from, that supervisor that can really emphasize your strengths etc...

Dont get discouraged... we are a very diverse class and we are not all 4.0 students

GOOD LUCK!

any questions feel free to ask..may take me a while to respond...im in the middle of studying for all my finals..but ill eventually respond!

Hey ! I'm currently a student at Hunter College but I am looking into applying into Stony Brook's program since I did not get in to Hunter's because I got a C in Orgo and we cannot retake any prereqs :(. Would you know if I can retake it to apply into Stony's program and if I can apply directly into it without being a student? I really hope you can help! Thanks !

Hi Ozgur,

I received your private message but unable to reply to it; it says your inbox is full.

I actually got accepted into Stony Brook University's 2 yr program and decided to go there. It's a lot cheaper and I completed my ungraduate degree there...so I'm very much familiar with the environment. I was also accepted into Pace University in the city. My program starts Aug. 26, I'm both excited and nervous, but I'm sure everything will work out. How's your program? Are you going to start applying to other programs again for fall or spring? I think you should definitely give stony brook a try again. I am open to helping you with your application and even review your personal statement. I applied to both of stony brook's programs; the accelerated and the 2 yr. I was not accepted into the accelerated and was very much surprised that they accepted me into their 2 yr program. So don't get discourage or lose hope. Everying happens for a reason and I'm always here to help if you need me. Send me your email address if you would like to talk.

Hey ! I was wondering if you can answer some questions for me about the program. I am currently a student at Hunter college, sophomore, and I did not get accepted into their program. I got a C in Orgo :( But i was looking into applying into Stony Brook. Can I apply directly into the program as a transfer? And Can I retake a science prereq before applying or while I'm there? I really hope you can help, I'd appreciate it so much. I'm sort of stuck about this and need all the advice I can get.

Thank you!

I'm going into the 1-year program (starting next month!), but I'm quite sure you don't need Organic Chem for Stony. Hunter is... special. ;)

That's bitter sweet to know lol. But mostly sweet. Is the 1-year program RN to BSN ? Thank you so much btw!

No, it's an accelerated BSN for second-degree (non-RN) students. I know SBU also has an RN-to-BSN program, but don't know the details.

@biod1234 does the SON create a schedule for you for the first semester and give it to you at orientation or do you make it yourself?

Hi BioD1234 I need help with my essay, I can email you my essay personally and let me know what you think. Thanks!!
