NYU Fall 2014 ABSN

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hello,

I have noticed there isn't a thread for those applying for NYU Accelerated Nursing Fall 2014. Let's share feedback, advice, stats, etc... I went to an open house today at NYU. They really do stress that since there is no interview, the personal statement is our chance to prove ourselves. They also said they get about 1,000 applicants and a Fall entrance class usually have about 150 students in it.

What part of the application process are you in?

How is the personal statement going?

How many pre-reqs do you have left?

I recently applied and I'm confused about the LOR's...On one site it says they are recommended but not required, and on another it says required...Also, I'm waiting to send in my last college transcript until grades are posted in December, do you think that will slow my application review? In other words if you have all of your documents in now will they start reviewing?

I havent applied yet. I am still waiting for my LORs. From what I heard at the open house LORs are not required but suggested. In other words they wont hurt you. I plan on sending in my applications before the new year. They probably wont review until they receive everything. They also said that just because we apply for the priority deadline doesnt mean that we will hear back first, or that we will be given priority over other applicants. All it means is that they will read our applications first. What other schools are you applying to? Do you have any more pre reqs to take?

Thanks for the info! I am looking at Georgetown, my current school (Loyola Chicago), and possibly some state schools in FL (where I have residency.) what about you? I have two pre-req's to complete, micro and organic chem (I'm not sure if those are pre-req's for NYU...I can't remember off hand, all schools are different) but in general I know I need micro, nutrition, and organic chem which are common pre-req's for most nursing programs. I'm debating if it would be better/easier to complete the ADN program at a community college and then just apply to a RN-MSN program...not sure though.

Hi all! Let's revive this post:cheeky: I'm applying for the fall 2014 class, as well. Haven't started on my application yet because I want to wrap up this prereq semester first. This semester I'm taking a religion course (so I can apply to Georgetown), chem, and A & P I. Spring 2014 I'll be taking my last prereq, A & P II. The semester ends next week then I can seriously start to apply to the rest of my schools (3 down, 4 to go). I already got one acceptance at in Philly, so I'm excited! I'm applying to a lot of reaches but it can't hurt to try, right?

Anyone applying to the RN-BSN program? I'm wondering how difficult it is to get in? if anyone doesn't mind sharing stats. I have a 3.38 gpa. I really want to live in NYC so I'm hoping to get in.

This is the accelerated BSN program thread, for people with a non-nursing bachelor's degree....RN to BSN is completely different.

Just wanted to clarify a little bit... As a recent nyu nursing graduate, I can tell you nyu has the BSN program, and the RN to bsn program, which is basically individualized. The main bsn program is a combined program of "traditional" students, as in students who entered the program right after high school, and the "accelerated" program, as in students who have a degree already. Both of these groups take the SAME classes together as ONE cohort.

The traditional students spend the first 2 years of their schooling doing the liberal arts classes nyu requires. At the start of year 3 they begin the actual nursing portion.

The nursing portion is 4 semesters. Traditional students typically (but not always) do fall/spring, have summer off and do fall and spring. some choose to go straight thru summer to finish earlier.

"Accelerated" students also do 4 semesters of nursing. They do 4 straight semesters, going straight thru.

Once admitted, there is absolutely no difference between traditional and accelerated students. They are integrated in all classes and clinicals.

Hey do you know the tuition for this school for the acelerated program?

If you have to ask...lol. It's NYU, probably astronomical.

I'm also applying for the Fall 2014 class. After this semester, the only pre-reqs I'll have are nutrition and developmental psych. I have a less than stellar undergrad GPA for my prior degree from 14 years ago. However, I have all A's in my completed pre-reqs now. Anyone know if recent pre-req grades carry more weight than your prior degree GPA from many years ago?

Also, how many recommendation letters are optimal? One page on their site said 1 letter, and another page said 1-2. Not sure if it really helps to have a second one. My first one will be from my A&P 1 & 2 professor, which should be a very good one.

Good luck everyone!

Hi everyone!

My name is Ashley and I applied to NYU's accelerated bachelor's in nursing program for Fall 2014 in September (yeah, I'm a freak and got everything done early). I just wanted to throw out all of my "stats" and "credentials" so when I hear back from NYU in March on whether I was accepted or not, you all can kind of judge what they may or may not see as the most important criteria for being accepted.

First of all, I graduated with a Bachelor's in Psychology from Ithaca College in May of 2012. My cumulative GPA was a 3.8. And here is the breakdown of my prerequisite GPA's:

A&P I (with lab): A-

A&P II (with lab): A

Fundamentals of Chemistry: A ; Chemistry lab: B+ ; I also took a course called Organic Chem & Biochem: B+ ; and the lab that went with it: A (but just one chem course is required for applying)

Microbiology I took the summer after I graduated at Cornell University: B (I haven't taken a lab for micro)

Nutrition: A

Statistics (with lab): A

Developmental Psych: A

During college, I was on a research team for Psychology (where I went to two national conferences to present our research, and one local conference). I also did an honor's thesis my senior year. One of my letters of recommendation was from my research team advisor (who also was my honor's thesis advisor), and the other letter was from my supervisor at Penn-Mar human services, which was where I did a summer internship working with adults with disabilities.

During my off years, I've been working full time as a nanny. I adore children and think I will end up specializing in pediatrics after becoming an RN. My major downfall with my application is that I have NO hospital/shadowing experience. AT ALL. I've wanted to start shadowing but because of my work schedule, it is difficult to find time where offices are open and in addition, I don't have a car so it makes things more difficult. Because I have no experience working with nurses, I feel like this is a major downfall to my application, and most likely will lead to me not being accepted but I figured it's worth a try!

I'm sure most of you have seen this blog just by google searching NYU's accelerated nursing program, but I wanted to provide the link for you all because it has a lot of great detailed information on the program that comes from a student who completed it in 2011.
