NYU BSN Fall 2012

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi everyone,

There was no forum for NYU BSN applicants, so I thought I'd start one. Hello, is there anybody out there?

Hi dbabklyn

How is it going? I still haven't heard anything yet. Have you? Good luck!

I'm doing alright and how are you? No i haven't heard anything as of yet. All I know is that my application is being reviewed. They told me that they will release all decisions by June 1st.

@ kt80 & clam15143, Thank you so much for the response! I guess if accepted, I won't be able to attend:crying2: Heck, I don't even know if I'm accepted or not. Given my circumstances, I'd actually feel better being rejected. Call me crazy, I know.

Hi Katemary

If you don't mind me asking, did you take all of your pre reqs yet?

Hi dbabklyn

If you don't mind me asking, did you take all of your pre reqs yet?

I had 1 outstanding pre-req (microbiology) when I applied but I finished the course last week so I am currently just waiting for a grade

@missjj yep i took all of my prereqs already

I just got my letter of rejection.

Look out of emails, they are suppose to be sending out a bunch in the next two weeks.

I applied as a transfer, for the second degree, have no pre reqs.

Hi all

After so many weeks of waiting, I finally got my acceptance email today!

I am super excited!!! Is there anyone else still waiting to hear? Today was supposed

to be the final day for all decisions to go out.

Wish you all the very best!!

Hey guys! Congrats to those who were accepted! I cannot wait to meet everyone this coming fall! I'm currently looking for housing. So far, I've only looked at craigslist and the NYU off-campus housing website.

Kristinebean- where are you moving from? I went this weekend and got an apartment in Jersey City. For me- it was the best choice. I am from Houston and the apartment hunting was awful. Good luck! It is doable- just different than getting an apartment anywhere else! A lot of people were very helpful though.

Hey ktg80!

Congrats on securing housing! I am moving from California and I am dreading finding an apartment. I called off-campus housing services and they said to start looking for housing in mid June to early July. Thanks for the encouragement! Is there something you wish someone had told you about looking for housing in NYC before you had gone apartment hunting? I look forward to seeing you and everyone else in our cohort this coming fall.

Kristinebean:

The apartment process was alot different than what I was used to- and I am by no means an expert- but I can tell you what worked for me. I used a broker to show me apartments and he let me know ahead of time what paperwork to bring. Most apartments wanted a full month's deposit, plus a month's rent, plus the broker fee. So- it is going to be expensive. Maybe this isn't always the case- but as an out of towner- I didn't have the luxury of knowing anyone to deal with a landlord directly. Also, they say that the good apartments go very quickly- so if you see something you like- you have to act on it. Another thing I found odd was when I decided on an apartment, the broker wrote up an offer (so you can negotiate maybe for a little cheaper rent than what it is posted as). I did not know before hand that there may be some wiggle room with the asked rent. Also- in my offer I negotiated for the full time I would be in school instead of for a 12 month lease, because I did not want to be in a situation where I was worrying about moving halfway through school. The broker told me alot of landlords will only let you sign for a 12 month lease at a time (and do not let you do just an additional 6 months after it goes up) because it is harder for them to rent in December than in the summertime. So I think it's a good idea to speak up and ask questions like that. I also think it was good to find something close to the subway (unless you're bringing a car?) and to ask around if the neighborhood is safe. I looked online before going up there to see what apartments were available- but that was more for just getting an idea what to expect. What you see online one week most likely won't be available the next. Also, when I went last weekend it was rainy and cold (for me as a Texas girl). We most definitely will need rain-boots and umbrellas up there! Let me know how it goes!
