NYU ABSN Fall 2015

U.S.A. New York

Anyone planning to apply to NYU ABSN program for fall 2015. Since I'm in CA, there's no way I could attend the information session. What important things were mentioned at the information session?

Hi! There's actually an online information session today (10/13) at 12pm EST:

Hey! Just saw that you made this post. I will update you here so we don't hijack the Spring 2015 thread lol. Hopefully admissions will give me an answer soon.

I was reading last year's thread and it said first round of acceptance letters went out early April. So far away! How are you doing with your application?

i'm pretty much ready, but just need to finish the essay. are you all done with prereqs? did you take any online? and were your stats? I heard it's a holistic admissions approach, but still i'm sure everyone's outstanding!

I am finishing psych, chem and nutrition this semester. I took a&p and micro online. I know they don't like that, but oh well. Undergrad gpa is a 3.3. Graduate gpa is a 3.4. Science gpa will hopefully be a 3.7 with chem.

What about you? Did you apply anywhere else?

Taking Chemistry now, and Microbiology in the spring!

Question -- We need to submit our resume, right? Is there a "special" way applicants have tailored their resume specifically for nursing school? I have a degree in Marketing, so have the typical resume of a business/corporate individual, but am wondering if I should change it to make it more nursing/health care related?

Also -- in terms of applying to other schools - NYU is still my #1 for many reasons, but one is that they require fewer prerequisites than other accelerated BSN programs. I'm really hoping I don't have to take another Chemistry or any other additional prerequisites that other programs require. On my "radar" is Seton Hall, Rutgers, Villanova, Pace, and Fairfield.

I have an English degree and a business degree, so my resume is more business related also. However, I have worked a lot with children - some of who have severe behavioral issues - so I listed those first and foremost. Then "other" was where I listed my office jobs. I don't have healthcare experience, so my experience with behavior is the most relevant.

I've applied to Pace, Columbia, Yale and Stony Brook University as well. Columbia is my top choice. BSN/MSN dual degree program.

@ DivaliciousMe85 anatomy and physiology online? how does that work?

as for resume goes, i'm sure you'll be fine. NYU is holistic admissions so they know you have a different background!

Ah! I follow this girl's blog that attends Columbia's dual program -- the Real Life RD

She seems to really like it! Maybe check it out if you want a first hand account of someone in the program!

Good point! I know that's been said a lot that they are very holistic when it comes to looking at applicants!

The lab portion was a simulation online. The practicals were actually really difficult for an online course.

hey everyone! I applied for the spring 2015 semester as a non-accelerated student because I still have to take Microbiology and Nutrition and Health. I received my acceptance into the college of Nursing on November 18th and am excited to be a part of the Fall 2015 absn cohort. If anyone is curious to know what my statistics were like and what they might be looking for here they are: I am 24 so not a new graduate but not long into my post undergraduate career. I graduated from Rutgers University (New Brunswick Campus) with a 3.6 cumulative GPA; major was psychology. My science GPA is a 4.0 (Statistics, Developmental Psych, A&P I). After this semester I should have an A- in Chem and an A in A&P II *fingers crossed* but at this point it doesn't matter too much since I was accepted into the program just need to keep my grades as high as possible. For experience: I have worked for the past year and a 1/2 at a psychiatric hospital as a mental health technician (same as a cna or pct). My letters of recommendation came from 2 nurse practitioners I work with. If you guys have any other questions regarding the admissions process feel free to ask! Good luck, I hope you all get into NYU and join me in the fall!
