Thanks for all of the information, everyone. I was just speaking to people about dual licensure in New Jersey today, and to see this gave me the incentive to download the information and get this thing started. Maybe I can obtain everything by the end of the summer.

    Hello:

If a student completes a nursing program in NJ, can he/she apply for a license in NY? Or, would the student have to get a license in NJ and then transfer to NY?

    Thanks!
Yes. If you go to nursing school in NJ, you can choose to take your boards for NY first, and then get reciprocity in NJ later on if you want to. You do not have to automicatically take the boards for NJ just because you went to school in that state.

Correct. You can take your boards in NY and later apply for endorsement in NJ, allowing you to have a license in both states. So get your license first from NY's Office of Professions, and once you have that in hand go to the NJ Board of Nursing website to download an application for endorsement and follow the instructions.
