Hey everyone, just wondering if anyone else went to the interview day yesterday for Columbia Presbyterian's Nursing Attendant position for BSN students? I got a call moments ago offering me a job, and I think I'm going to take it! Even though it's a pay cut from my current job I think it'll be worth it in the end (hopefully).

Anyone else get offered the job? If so, what school do you go to? What shift are you planning on? Just trying to see who's out there!

Yeah I applied online, they had a posting for a December 1st Interview Day for the position.

Hi! I guess I just missed this. Can you tell me more about the Interview Day? Is this a day when potential Nursing Attendants go to NYP-Columbia or an online event in which many apply for Nursing Attendant positions on their website?

Basically they listed the position on the website (the careers section), the title was something like "December 1 Interview Day-Nursing Attendant for BSN students". I then applied online, just like for any other job. A couple days later I got an email asking me to do a test online, basically testing reading comprehension and basic math (hospitals generally ask for this kind of test when applying for CNA/PCA/PCT/etc positions, at least I had to do one for my current job). A few days after that I got an email saying I passed and that someone would contact me in a few days. Someone did, gave me times for the interview, I chose one, then they emailed me again with the location and what to bring.

On the actual interview day, I went to the Columbia location, I got signed in, and I went into a room with like 3 people doing interviews. I sat with one person while two other people were being interviewed. I was asked typical questions, like why NYP, describe a situation with a challenging patient, a situation in which the decision you had to make was a difficult one, how do you maintain a safe environment for the patient, etc. She then told me a little about what being a nursing attendant at NYP involves, you're in the float pool, etc, and that was about it. It all lasted about 15 minutes. They called me the next day in the evening to say I was offered the job.

I'd say keep checking online. I'd assume they'll put up another interview day closer to the end of the spring semester, since they time it so that there is a break (i.e. winter and summer breaks) since it's for nursing students and they know it would be hard to schedule orientation stuff for all of us with our school schedules.

That's awesome! I wish I saw that. I'm currently working as a nursing aide in NSLIJ but I live in the city now so the commute is terrible! Hopefully I'll find one of those, soon! Congrats, btw :)

Also, the salary is $16 something to start, then it goes to $17 something after three months (after you're off probation). This is a pay cut for me (I make $20 at my current PCA job), so I'm also applying for another per diem position somewhere else to supplement. I really want to work at NYP as an RN, want a different environment from the hospital I work at now, and I like that the scheduling seems to be flexible (you work 2 to 4 days a week, depending on what you can do, she said you can do more days if you have nothing else to do, haha). I saw somewhere on their site that almost 50% of the RNs hired come from internally, so I'm just doing everything I can to hopefully be one of those in 1.5 years!

Thanks! That's funny, I live in LI and work in NYC. I drive, and the commute is still bad (parking too). I was originally looking for something closer to me in LI but then I saw the NYP thing. If I'm going to commute from LI to NYC, I'd rather do it for NYP, instead of something else, haha.

Thank you for that extensive info! I am currently a senior, my fall semester is just wrapping up and wanted to hold a job during the spring semester, my last semester. NYP is great and I hope to eventually work there as an RN. Congrats on the new job!

Anyone know if NYP (specifically Cornell) employees do self-scheduling?
