New Grad from MN Looking for work in NYC

U.S.A. New York

Published

I am a recent grad from the University of Minnesota with my BSN. I passed the NCLEX and I've been a nursing assistant at Children's Hospitals & Clinics of MN for over a year now. I was wondering how hard it is to find a job near/in NYC. I am debating on getting my licensed verified in NY but with no real RN experience yet and being out of state it seems rather daunting to try and find a job...let alone peds where I have specialized in. Does anyone have any advice for me? Is my dream realistic? Any insight is appreciated!

I would say start applying, but hold off on the license transfer until you have a potential job offer.

the good news is though is that I can be licensed in both states at the same time! I wouldn't be transferring my license away from MN!

Start applying to hospitals. It is a tough job market for new grads without experiences. However, many hospitals in NY are looking for Bachelor prepared nurses. Be open to accept any positions. Good Luck!

Im a new grad with my license in ny and ive had a horrible time even getting a call for an interview. Even when I do give my resume to my "connects," during my interview they realize I have no experience as an RN and basically shut me down immediately. Times are tough. Im not going to say your dream isnt realistic because it definately is. I know people who, with luck, get their dream jobs in their dream hospitals on the first try. I say you should work a year or 6 months at least in your state, while you apply and wait for you NY license. That way itll be easier for you to get into hospitals in ny. Dont give up on your dream! I wish you the best of luck!
