CA is going to be on a hiring freeze, once again. The governor just rolled out his newest budget plans and healthcare is among the cuts. The competition out here is FIERCE and there are MANY new grads out here without jobs who have been searching for over a year. Nurses are NOT in high demand out here like in many other places. Before you move out to CA, have a job or you will regret it.
And I've never heard of a new grad being paid $50/hr.

omg. R u serious. I had no idea nurses can make that much more $$ in california!...im about to graduate as an rn. Is that something i can possibley be making? Or wats the start of pay as an rn.any idea?
If everyone made 40-50 an hour to start in California, we'd all be there.
So are hospitals in New York actually HIRING new grads? What about with 2 years experience? Because I am thinking about breaking my contract in Pittsburgh if the price is right. After 7 years in Chicago, I can't take this podunk town anymore.

Yes, it is true.. I believe starting at NSLIJ on Long Island is 32.75 for ASN.. little extra ~$1 for BSN.
The two main hospitals are North Shore - Manhasset, and LIJ (actually located in Floral Park on the Queens/Nassau border)

Hello!!
I actually have an interview tomorrow at North Shore Univ hospital. I am a novice nurse (BSN) with 10 month ICU experience. Do you know if the starting pay that you mentioned is for day-shift? If so, do you know what the shift diff is for evenings/nights?

shift diff is $5200/yr for night staff.
For day shifters (7a-7p), the hours from 3p-7p receive differential, so day shifters get an extra $1700/yr above base.
For BSN, it gets added into your hourly rate.. approx $1200/yr or $0.60/hr
Since you already have 10 months working in ICU, you're close to having enough hours to be eligible for the CCRN, which earns an addiitional $1200/yr, and is generally paid every december (right before holidays).
From when I reached my one yr anniversary, the hourly had increased 10-11% when factoring in COL and anniversary raise.
The CCRN and BSN are nice little $$ extras, although they now only pay for one certification credential. NSLIJ also has a three step clinical ladder (earn points for certain participation and certifications), with each step adding ~$1200-1500 to your base salary.
