U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi there! I set this up so that people who are currently at Hunter, who intend to apply for the New Generic Program for Nursing in Fall 2014 can share, discuss, and review anything related to the nursing program.

where to apply :

information in regards to the Hunter Nursing Program :

NLN test :

Also, any students who are currently in Hunter's Nursing Program (any) , or in a nursing program in general are welcome to share any useful information they have. (NLN scores, tips, advice, GPA?)

so close yet so far.....

Indeed, after looking through this years scores and GPA, it's such a toss up! There are so many people with average GPAs and 150+ NLN. And then there are people with average NLN but high GPAs. It's going to be a harrowing next 3 weeks ugh.

hey guys reading through this also a little worried now, i have a 3.77 GPA but only a 138 on the test. Does anyone know exactly how many slots are there for the new generic program?

IIRC it maybe on HB's website somewhere and is mentioned here in the group as well. One hundred slots split fifty-fifty between undergraduate/generic and ABSN.

For Class of 2016, we found out in early May!

Sorry but could you elaborate on "Early May" was it before registration period began?

Also, are the 100 seats really split between generic and accelerated or is 100 for each? Oh goodness...

No... that information is incorrect. if you read on HB website there are 100 seats for generic. there are only about 35 for accelerated..

Whew, thank you I appreciate it very much! I'm on the facebook group and they have a graph set up and there are many people with competitive gpa and nln scores.

I still don't get why they weigh GPA as 50% because someone could take 30 credits and get a 4.0 whereas someone else could take 60 and get a 3.9 SMH.

what is the face book group name?

Believe it's this one:

Got the "fifty" in my head from a post via another student last year: https://allnurses.com/new-york-nursing/cuny-hunter-generic-806611.html

What happens if you base admissions solely upon GPA and there are >300 applicants for 100 slots with nearly 200 with required GPAs >3.5 and 100 or more at or just shy of 4.0?

Before instituting standardized test requirements Hunter like almost every CUNY nursing program in the past ten or so years had to contend with large numbers of qualified (if not highly) applicants for limited slots. HB in particular as the "crème de la crème" of CUNY nursing programs (and one of only three offering an undergraduate BSN) had a big problem of many pre-nursing students failing to get in because there just was not enough room. We're speaking of students with rock solid GPAs well into 3.0's. If you didn't get in your options were to either wait around Hunter taking other classes and apply for the next class, or transfer/apply to another nursing program elsewhere.

Adding an NLN test score component can ameliorate a GPA of "only" say between 3.2 and 3.5 if the student knocks it out of the ballpark with a decent or even spectacular score.

I found out before registration. I'm not sure the exact date. I think it's going to be 100 seats for you all. It was 50 seats for us freshmen last year because HBSON still had to accept students who were applying for the OLD generic program. SO...they took 50 from the NEW GENERIC applicant pool and 50 from the OLD GENERIC applicant pool. Now, for class of 2017, the only program is the NEW GENERIC. So therefore, I believe they'll be going back to accepting 100(or so) students for the incoming class. Just a few more weeks, good luck again everyone!
