Hunter College New Generic Pathway 2013-2014

Published

Hi there! I set this up so that people who are currently at Hunter, who intend to apply for the New Generic Program for Nursing in Fall 2014 can share, discuss, and review anything related to the nursing program.

where to apply :

information in regards to the Hunter Nursing Program :

NLN test :

Also, any students who are currently in Hunter's Nursing Program (any) , or in a nursing program in general are welcome to share any useful information they have. (NLN scores, tips, advice, GPA?)

Thanks guys =) Fazeena, do you know anything about how they check if we completed pre-requisites? I won't be home because of work on Saturday and Sunday so if they call I'm screwed =/

Also, DoGoodThenGo, you're absolutely right we're playing a game of numbers. I only saw one person get in with a 4.0GPA and that was someone for the old generic program =/

Hey, everyone! Sorry I haven't posted in awhile. Every time I read this thread, I become too anxious to post, but I've been keeping tabs on it. To xHoneyBunny, thanks for reassuring me on my first post. That really helped. : )

Also, Fazeena, thank you VERY much for providing us with so much information! It helps a lot to hear from someone accepted last year. Priority registration is May 6th, so, if they will announce it before registration again, it'll be before that date. That's less than two weeks from now. Good luck to everyone!

And to Results2014, I don't think they'll call us to verify that. They have our transcripts after all, so there's no need to call.

Thanks, I'm breaking out the bottle of Bacardi if I'm accepted. Still breaking it out if I'm not accepted xD

Apparently last year they got it on the Sat/Sun weekend of May? So if tha'ts the case this year, we shoudl get it May 3rd or 4th.

Haha, enjoy! xD And by the way, someone in the Facebook group is saying that we actually do get called for verification of our pre-requisites...? I don't understand this though, since they have our transcripts. We'll find out when it happens, I guess, but if you miss their call, I'm sure they'll give you a number to call back or something.

I don't want to wait until the weekend; I hope they contact us before May! Or now. Nowww.

... At the same time, I almost don't want to find out. >__>

Hey All!

I'm a current hunter student, and I already applied for the generic program that will start fall 2014. My GPA is 3.7, and my NLN was 120.

I know my NLN is low. However, I know a girl that is already in the program and she was first rejected and then accepted. Her GPA was 3.7 and her NLN score was 130. Hunter first told her that she didn't get into the program at some point in May last year, however, she got an A+ in Orgo. At some point during June, the nursing dept. called her and asked her if she was still interested in the program, and she said yes. Hunter makes it seem that they only care about GPA and the NLN score - this is mostly true. Even though they deny that they don't care about other stuff such as: Is the student fluent in a second language? Has the student done volunteer work?, What makes this student different from the other ones? Male or Female? They actually DO take this things into consideration.

They are trying to make the program more diverse and more inclusive. I heard all of this from a prof.

I really hope to get into the nursing program! Good Luck to all!

I can't find the group on facebook, can you post it again please?

Thank you.

Chamow.... I have the same gpa but I got a 122 on the nln. I hope we make it. Knowing someone that got around my score gives me some hope.

Chamow, there's a link to the Facebook group earlier in this thread. Also, while I suppose the nursing department might be taking those things into consideration, there's a chance that your professor may be mistaken. Perhaps your professor is correct, but I'd rather hear it from the nursing advisor or someone else a part of the judging process.

If they do happen to look into things like volunteer work and whatnot, it'll probably only be for when the numbers come very close to one another. Even so, it sounds unfair to me.

I think that is also unfair to look at other things. They never mentioned anything about volunteer stuff or anything else beside gpa an nln. The nursing advisor made that a clear point.

Am not doubting your story but if true it could open HBSON along with any other CUNY school following such a process to a whole lot of questions and or even legal action.

Using criteria other than what is stated in the admissions process is one sure fire way to bring claims of discrimination. All the things mentioned are subjective and therefore open to interpretation. Some nursing programs do give weight to things such as personal essay, interviews or whatever, but that is spelled out in the admissions policy published for all to see.

HBSON clearly states a ranking is created based upon 50/50 NLN score and GPA. If they are going to start counting bi-lingual capability, volunteer work or whatever there is no mention of it and that could possibly be illegal.

When we will we find out already lol?!?!

probably this weekend! hopefully.... good luck everyone! fingers crossed..

My friend got the email in his hunter spam mail the first Friday of May... I checked but still nada !
