Hunter College New Generic Pathway 2013-2014

Published

Hi there! I set this up so that people who are currently at Hunter, who intend to apply for the New Generic Program for Nursing in Fall 2014 can share, discuss, and review anything related to the nursing program.

where to apply :

information in regards to the Hunter Nursing Program :

NLN test :

Also, any students who are currently in Hunter's Nursing Program (any) , or in a nursing program in general are welcome to share any useful information they have. (NLN scores, tips, advice, GPA?)

Hi! First year New Generic here. You all have great chances of getting in, looking at your scores. One of you mentioned the first semester's classes:

First Semester (Fall)

BIOL 120 Human Anatomy and Physiology I (4.5 cr)

NURS 200 Introduction to Nursing (2 cr)

NURS 210 Nursing Fundamentals and Health Assessment (4 cr)

NURS 240 Foundation of Genetics for Nurses (2 cr)

Humanities (3 cr) (see catalog)

I HIGHLY SUGGEST you all start taking those Bio classes the summer prior to your entrance into the program, if you are accepted. I can tell you that it is DEFINITELY tough. Class of 2016 has had a pretty rough time especially with anatomy and physiology 1 and 2 that we have had to take along with the nursing courses.

The curriculum committee is aware of how insane the first year's classes are, and supposedly they will do something to change it, whether it be informing students to start taking these classes earlier or whatever the case might be. Just know, your first year wont be easy, and very stressful with those bio classes. I was lucky enough to take Anatomy and Physiology 2 over the winter, and now I only have Microbiology with Pharmacology 1 and Adult Health and Illness with a Hunter GER requirement. It's still tough. Just try to get A&P out of the way!

Don't be discouraged. The program is still a great one. You all must stay positive!

Best of luck to everyone applying. :)

I agree with this entirely. I think I mentioned this topic here or in another post. taking those bio classes with the nursing curriculum is pretty extreme.

I already took all of my bio prerequisites..I would suggest everyone else do the same.

I'm starting the RN-BSN program here in the fall, how do student feel about the administration? I feel like no one ever answers any of my e-mails, and my hunter id doesn't seem to work for anything, starting to get a tad frustrated.

Anyone know when the results come out for this year?

We should be finding out in May.

They hardly ever if at all answer emails. they get so many emails from Hunter students and not to mention students interested in the program that they can't keep up. They advise that you go to an info session for questions or make an appointment with an advisor. If your questions aren't answered still, then just go directly to Brookdale campus and speak with someone. that's what I did. Also, you'll have a better chance of speakingwith someone if you call nursing dept. instead of email. 212-481-7596

As far as your Hunterid, you can call the student help desk so that they can help you fix the issue. 212-650-3624.

After perusing the many different threads, I see that most people found out in April. Have they not given us a set date yet? It's infuriating that we don't even get a time interval. I could use the motivation booster of an acceptance right now, hahah.

Unfortunately, they don't give out exact acceptance dates or application status updates. I know because I asked Ms. "*" at a nursing advising session. She said we would find out "around" May.

And, yes, I believe in the 2012 forum people were accepted earlier than May, whereas in 2013 I noticed very beginning of May, sent via email.

keeping my fingers crossed that it's sooner than later.

For Class of 2016, we found out in early May!

do you mean for accelerated? For the new generic program, we would be class of 2017.
