Has anyone graduated from Molloy College BSN/MSN program?

U.S.A. New York

I was looking at this program and was told it will take 3 years to complete if I have no science prerequisites. This is basically the same, or 6 months longer than BSN programs elsewhere if I don't have prerequisites. My question is, what are you considered at the end of a program? An NP or an RN with a Masters?

Yeah..It can take up about 3 yrs or so. Im in the program myself (BSN.)I came in as a transfer student with all my sciences allready done in the spring, but I had some other classes to do. I actually start my 1st 5- Nursing Courses in Sept. But yeah , looking at their program, it is about that. Ill graduate in 2010-2011 year; however, I must say that their Nursing Program is intensive...you will work non- stop until you are done. If you have any questions, please ask me ;)

How much is it per a semester at Molloy for the NP program? And could you tell me the GPA required for admissions?

I am in the process of trying to transfer to molloy however am also also running across a similar issue. I have completed all of my sciences and would graduate in 4 years. However I will be transferring in as a junior (3rd year), molloy is telling me that it is going to take me 1.5 extra years to graduate so instead of 4 years total it will be 5.5. Is that normal? Please provide any information on the program, the professors, the length of time it took yourself as a transfer student. Thank you in advance!

YES, THAT IS COMPLETELY TRUE UNFORTUNATELY. MOLLOY NURSING PROGRAM IS SET IN A WEIRD WAY. YOU CAN ONLY DO A LIMITED AMOUNT OF NURSING CLASSES PER SEMESTER... EVEN IF YOU WANNA ACCELARATE.

IS A GREAT NURSING SCHOOL THOUGH. I JUST CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK IN THE FALL. GOOD LUCK TO YOU.

Thanks for the response!

Can you give me any extra information on the school itself/ surrounding area? Is it a pretty busy campus? Are the students pretty connected? Are the professors friendly/ easy to work with? Are there nursing counselors? How do you like the campus? I haven't visted Molloy or LI at all so i appreciate any information you have to give!

:bugeyes:WELL, MOST OF THE STUDENTS ARE VERY YOUNG...(IN THE UNDEGRADUATE PROGRAM.) THE CAMPUS IT SELF IS PRETTY SMALL, BUT FRIENDLY. AS FAR AS THE PROFESSORS, SOME ARE NICE AND SOME ARE NOT...I GUESS YOU SEE THAT TYPE OF COMBINATION IN EVERY SCHOOL. I DO HAVE TO SAY THAT MY GPA WENT UP TO 3.9 THIS LAST SEMESTER BECAUSE YOU REALLY HAVE TO WORK HARD. SOME OF THE TEACHERS ARE NUNS AND PRIESTS AND THEY CAN BE VERY CHALLENGING LOL BUT IF YOU WORK HARD AND THEY SEE THAT, YOU ARE OKAY.

YES WE HAVE NURSING COUNSELORS..BUT LIKE THE PROFESSORS, SOME ARE GOOD AND SOME ARE NOT. I ACTUALLY HAVE A NICE LADY AS ONE, BUT SHE DOES NOT KNOW MUCH LOL. I SEE MY SELF GOING INTO THE DEAN'S OFFICE FOR ANSWERS TOO OFTEN. IT IS SUCH A BIG NURSING PROGRAM AND YOU SEE ALOT OF DISORGANIZED HABITS BETWEEN THE STAFF LOL. THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE ARE GONNA BE CHANGES IN THE PROGRAM THIS FALL, MEANING THAT THEY ARE GOING TO BECOME STRICTER. WHEN YOU GET INTO THE PROGRAM YOU NEED TO TAKE 2 TEST: NELSON DENNY FOR READING AND VOCABULARY COMPREHENSION (YOU HAVE TO SCORE 13. AND UP) AND A MATH TEST ( YOU CAN ONLY GET 2 ANSWERS WRONG.) IF YOU FAILED, THEN U MUST TAKE REMEDIAL COURSES AND IF U FAIL THE COURSES THEN YOU GET KICKED OUT OF THE PROGRAM. YOU MUST GET C+ AND BETTER IN EVERYYYYY NURSING COURSE AND IN THE RELATED ONES TOO. THERE IS ALOT MORE TO COME AND I MYSELF MUST FIND OUT BEFORE THE NEW SEMESTER. IM DOING THE 1ST 5-NURSING COURSES...IM ACCELARATING SO HOPEFULLY IT WON'T BE TOO MUCH!!!!!!! I'M 27 AND I HAVE NO INTENTIONS ON STAYING IN SCHOOL FOR EVERRRR!

WELL I HOPE THIS HELP...IF U HAVE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS, PLEASE ASK ME!;)

Wow, great help!

A question for housing, what do most students do about housing/ can you tell me good close neighborhoods that are nearby Molloy. I have been looking online but there is so much information and so many varying opinions about what is safe. Do you know anything about Baldwin or Uniondale? Also do many people use the bus? I'm transferring from Seattle where the bus system is AMAZING and assumed NY's bus system would be even better but haven't really gotten that impression from the people I talk to.

Does Molloy have a good library? Do many students use it? Are there campus functions, like are the students pretty connected? Do you get to know a lot of people in your classes?

Again, thank you SO MUCH for all of your help thus far!!!

There is big difference between NYC bus system and LI bus system, the LI bus system is lousy, try to get a car, it will save u a lot grief trying to get to clinicals and class.

WELL, TO BE HONEST WITH YOU..I THINK BALDWIN IS MUCH BETTER. BUT WHY DON'T YOU CALL THE SCHOOL AND FIND OUT ABOUT HOUSING INFO? I KNOW WE DON'T HAVE DORMS, BUT I DO KNOW THAT THEY DO OFFER SOME TYPE OF HOUSING OUT SIDE CAMPUS??? FIND OUT! ALSO, THE BUS STOPS RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE SCHOOL, BUT IM NOT REALLY FAMILIAR WITH IT SINCE I DRIVE. I DO KNOW THAT ALOT OF STUDENTS TAKE THEM. IN MY OPINION, I THINK MOLLOY IS A SCHOOL FOR COMMUTERS WITHIN NY. IS PRETTY SMALL, BUT I FIND IT FUN AND INTERESTING. THEY OFFER ALOT OF TRIPS TO EUROPE FOR STUDENTS WHO WISH TO TAKE COURSES OUT OF THE COUNTRY WHICH I FIND SO COOL BUT CAN'T DO LOL!!!!!! I'M SURE ALL SCHOOLS OFFER THAT. BUT ANYWAYS, MAY I ASK WHY NOT TRY OTHER SCHOOLS IN THE NYC. MAYBE YOU SHOULD TAKE A WEEKEND TRIP HERE AND CHECK THE SCHOOL OUT- I HAVE A SUMMER CLASS STARTING AUG 3RD- AUG 13TH SO IF YOU DECIDE TO DO SO, LET ME KNOW. ILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO SHOW YOU AROUND.

yes, I am going into my last semister at Molloy (will graduate in Dec 09). i also came in as a tranfer student into the dual degree progam. i had to take all of my sciences but o additional. i was told that i would be done in 2 yrs. it took me 3.5 yrs. what they tell u and what u can actually achieve is not possible. the program is stuctured in such a way that you can only take a few classes at a time. it is VERY intensive and competitive. to those who are taking their first 5 nursing classes all at once, MAY GOD BE WITH YOU. That is next to unsurivivable. Ur clinical will consume most of ur time along with your REQUIRED MODULES. Be very careful with the 5 classes all at once, if u fail ur DONE! NURSing is a small community and other schools will be very hesistant to take you or will not accept u at all. i came into the school with a high GPA and watched it drop every semister. as easy as it may sound to get a c+, MANY people struggle to achieve that. please feel free to ask any questions, i can give u inside info!

some of the staff can be very helpful to the students and some are down right mean and nasty. being able to survive this program depends on the professor you have. some of them know their information but dont know how to teach it and some of them who are great teachers have VERY DIFFICULT exams. I have had a mixture and regret taking some professors that are "easy", because i realize that i didnt learn what i was supposed to. the nursing lab has great staff, who care for the students and will dry ur tears but the lab itself it not up to par to what it should be. the lab is mostly filled with students who are in their first clinical and get in ur way. Registration is a complete nightmare, u have to register with an advisor, there is no online registration where you can do it yourself. Most of the advisors dont know anything about registration, and will mess u up if u are not an informed student. registering for clinical is not what it appears to be. u register for one thing and they changed and dont tell u until they day before u start( i registered for thurs, fri, sat 3-9 pm and was put in sat- sun 7am to 7pm). the campus is very small, and u know everyone in the nursing program(which means everyone knows ur business). the library is small, noisy and they close at 10pm during the week and at 5 on the weekend (I ended up going to another college and used their library a few times). there is no such thing as studying or going to the library during finals cause it is so noisy and crowded (i studied in my car, in the parking lot for MANY hours). the cafeteria has salad, wraps, dry hamburgers with soggy old french fries and if ur lucky u can find a cold soda!!!! or you can pay .25 for a cup of ice. they close at 2:30 mon - thurs, and 1 on friday. if u get hungry at 2:31, u have to eat from the 3 vending machines that dont work most of the time. however, the school does provide 2 microwaves for students that are dirty and dont get cleaned. if u want to eat, you have to drive to the nearest fast food spot. 99.999% of the students commute and depending on what time ur calss is u may or may not find parking and u will get a ticket if u park where u are not supposed to. Public transportation is hell, buses comes once an hr if ur lucky and stops running at certain times. ur best bet is to live as close to the school as possible or drive.
