Does Maimonides Medical Center or Beth Israel hire Associate Degree Nurses?

U.S.A. New York

Is anyone currently working with a Associates at any of these two hospitals or know of someone who was hired with an Associates?

Thanks.

I highly doubt it. Its probably next to near impossible without some networking power to land an inpatient job in NYC with a ADN. My friend worked at Maimo until about a month ago and they made her go back and get her BSN, and this was over 3 years ago. So yes technically she was hired with an Associates, but this was over 5 years ago.

Even if I'm BSN enrolled, that doesn't mean anything?

No, they say "or must be enrolled...", but there are too many BSN'S out there looking.

Am not picking on you or anyone else, but "BSN enrolled" does not really mean much in the long run.

Being enrolled in a course or program is not a guarantee of completion if a person does not complete the facility then has to consider their next move.

As noted in this thread and elsewhere NYC area is awash in BSN nurses both experienced and new grads. The latter keep coming like clockwork every six to twelve months. Think of the huge pool of experienced ADN grads all going back for their BSN either by choice or mandate and you see the numbers.

Finally you have to look at the larger picture of the changed NYC healthcare landscape. Over the past decade or so we have lost ten or more hospitals and a good number of nursing homes. Add to that the decrease in remaining inpatient beds and you have large numbers of nurses (especially new grads) chasing relative few open positions.

It is an employers market right now for hospitals. They are free to pick and choose from a *very* deep pool of nurses.

I currently work at Maimonides in a non-nursing position. I know of people getting nursing jobs with their Associate's but unfortunately, it's usually people that already work in the hospital. I have heard of students making positive impressions on the nursing managers during their clinicals and being offered jobs once they graduated though!

It happens, but it's not common. Don't rely on your "BSN enrolled" status to land you a job. Like previous posters have mentioned, the market is already filled with new grads with their BSN. If you happen to land an interview, what can you offer that your competition cannot. Good luck!

Maimonides and NS-LIJ recently became "partners" though not sure if it is a full merger. In any event will be interesting to see if the former will adopt the BSN mandate of the latter.

They're not quite partners yet. NS-LIJ gave MMC a gigantic loan and MMC has X-amount of years to decide if they either want to merge and have the loan absorbed or if they want to pay back the loan over a predetermined span of time and remain independent. So it'll be quite some time before a decision is made and any kind of changes like that are made.

Only recall what one read in the local newspapers. Thanks for fleshing the entire story out.

NS-LIJ seems to have a lot of money to throw about. In the years since Lenox Hill (that they paid for in all cash IIRC), they have been on a buying/merger spree.
