I start there in a couple of weeks as a new grad. The base pay is around $68,000, for a BSN it's an extra $1300 or so (although they only hire BSN new grads as far as I know, so really the base should just be $69,300) and the night differential is $5600. Hope that helps!
Yes it does thank u! I'm interviewing for the OR so no night differential for me . Also I'm @ nyu hosp for joint diseases so the union will also be taking a cut. Well I guess having evenings, weekends, and holidays off can make up for it!
There's a union at NYU too, although I'm still a little vague about how much union dues and benefits cost. Is it a whole different union at HJD? And yes, having a day shift would make up for a lot of things!
I'm not sure what union is @ NYU but HJD has 1199. I was already hired @ Hospital for Special Sugery starting $69,600 which does not have a union. I wanted to interview at both a union and non-union hosp to be able to make an informed decision. I'm a lil fuzzy on the whole benefits/union/non-union business as well.

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!!
Secondly, I have a few questions, if you don't mind:
I see you are a new grad, have you taken the nclex or are you on a temp. permit? I am getting conflicting info. about their willingness to employ with a permit.
Also, which specialities do they offer (currently)? I graduate in December - was told by recruitment to apply in October.
Is it just me or is their job listing very limited?!
Thank you for any help you can give me.
And again Congrats!!!
Hi Mrs. GPR,
To answer your first question, I graduated in May and was hired in June. At the time I was hired, I hadn't taken the NCLEX. I took it and passed in July and am starting there in September, so I have a regular license. They didn't seem to mind that I hadn't taken NCLEX when they hired me. It was my understanding that technically, you have a full year after you start working to pass. However, I'm guessing they prefer people to take the NCLEX as soon as possible. If you graduate in December and take your boards within a few months, I'm assuming that would be fine with them.
As for specialties they offer, you're right that currently their listings are probably a bit sporifice, because they've just hired on batches of new grads for July, September and October orientations. Also, their job offerings are constantly changing, because openings often occur unexpectedly. I'm not sure which specialty you want to go into, but my advice if you're graduating in December is to send your resume into nurse recruitment around October, wait a week or two, call them to confirm that they've received it, and then call regularly to check the status of your situation until they give you an appointment to come in and interview with nurse recruitment. Once there, they'll give you an idea of the openings they have, and if there's one you're interested in, they'll set up an appointment with the nurse manager of that unit.
Sorry if that was long, hope it helps!
Thank you!!!
It wasn't too long - it was a wonderful reply! Just what I was looking for! I am really excited about NYU.
a) they have a (remarkable) new grad residency program
b) they will pay for your Master's if you attend NYU College
c) they responded to my email within 24 hours
I don't have to convince you, obviously, so I hope that everything goes well! Keep us posted on the residency (if you have time). Let us know if it is all that they ("they" being their website) make it out to be - and all that you want it to be. Which specialty did you choose? (It almost sounds too good to be true, eh?)
Best of luck to you! Thanks again for the info.!

ARE YOU SURE? I thought there was NO union at NYU....
Thanks to your post, nyforlove, I found out that I was, in fact, wrong. Turns out nurses at NYU aren't part of a union, but the nurse's AIDES are part of 1199.

I used to work at NYU hospital for joint diseases, they have 1199, they take associate degree nurses but prefers BSN. Less that 150 beds when I was there, very nice place to work, excellent orientation and support system. Fully computerized, computer
classes is 2 days at mid town NYU.
NYU mid-town, no union, they require BSN.
NYU down town -very close to pace univ, is unionized but can't remember the name of union- not one of the popular ones, they hire associate degree nurses but prefers BSN.
All three have different salaries and benefits.
Good luck

Why did you take a non-unioned job? Were the benefits better? :bowingpur
