Moving to Durham, NC from Los Angeles
Hey my North Carolina family, I'll be a nursing student at DUSON (Duke University School of Nursing) in the fall. My family and I are having a devil of a time finding suitable housing. What you don't know is I live with my extended family and have to accommodate my grandmother-in-law's special needs. Does anyone have housing connections that I might tap into to find a nice 4 or 5 bedroom townhouse or house? I'd like to geographically relocate within 10 miles of the Duke Nursing School. Initially only two of the three adults will be paying rent (or mortgage). Any suggestions?? Please PM me if need be. Thanks

How is school going so far?
Ghillbert, What school are you currently attending? And why did you choose the ACNP program over the CRNA program?

Pre-Requisite Challenging Classes
I'm in the same boat as you. I didn't think Anatomy was too bad either, just had to put in the time. In my case, the class scored a "C" to low "C" average with an atrition rate of >50%. And I'll be starting both Micro and Physiology next term (like Spring 2009). I went all out last term (Fall 2008) and took Pharmacology and Anatomy w/lab. I don't recommend it but I have a deadline to complete my pre-reqs by mid Aug 2009 too. Hope all is well. Oh, what nursing school will you be attending this fall BLUEMALIBU? CRNA1906

what are the guys' reasons to become a nurse?
Hey Fellas (and girls), It's been an interesting road for me. I started out wanting to be a pharmacist BUT once I shadowed one, I quickly lost interest. Then I fell in love with research....particularly public health research. And I've been in the field for slightly more than 10 years but unfortunately, most of the none administrative positions are soft money (grant funded). And I got tired of being let go because the grant money was no longer available....so there went the job. Then I volunteered on a research project with a BSN nursing student. After numerous discussions and seeing her transform from a 2nd career nursing student into a FNP, I was hooked. There's so many opportunities available worldwide for RNs that it just seemed right. Secondly, the mission statement of the nurse (treating the well-being of the patient) overlapped with public health (treating the well-being of populations) and not just fixing problems. This just felt like the right field. Oh, and I'm used to a predominantly female workforce because in public health the ratios are more like 7:1 (female to male).
