I've already attempted to get an accounting degree but realized some time into it that it's just not for me. I feel that nursing is what I want and I'm pretty confident about this decision thus far. I've spent some time looking into how all this works but it's so confusing.

I applied to QCC, but not directly to the nursing program so I have to change that, but for those who applied to it, how was the process? And if one is getting the A.A.S Degree in Nursing can one pursue becoming a Registered Nurse directly after? Or does one have to get a Bachelors? And if the Associates is enough, will it look bad?? I may sound silly or dumbfounded and that is exactly what I am; it's fairly confusing. If anyone could possibly, SOMEHOW, give me a layout as to how one can become a successful and knowledgeable Registered Nurse, pleeease help me out!!

I just graduated from QCC nursing. I have to say, it is a pretty good school for nursing with cheap tuition. We can apply NCLEX after graduation, and our passing rate is very high too. You can always get a BSN after A.A.S in nursing. Many four-year schools have RN passway, for associate degree RNs.

You need to apply to pre-nursing now. You need to take several prerequisite classes such as A&P before apply to nursing major, that takes about one to two semester. Then you can contact nursing department. They will look at your GPA on those classes, you need good GPAs, above 3.7.

im from QCC as well. iam currently in 2nd semester of nursing program. NU-102 is so hard. and i just finish the 2nd test. im so sad,i just get 76, even though i pass, but i thought i will do better, i know i study those materials so well, but i still didn't do good. iam so sadddddddddddd:crying2::cry::cry::cry:

When you complete the AAS at QCC you are eligible to sit for the NCLEX and if you pass you are a Registered Nurse! You can get your BSN later or transfer immediately after QCC - they have relationships with several NY metro area BSN programs, like NYU, Adelphi, Molloy, and more.

The way QCC works is you have to do the minimum pre-reqs BEFORE you can apply to the Clinical Nursing Program. So just get going on your pre-reqs.

The four pre-reqs are:

A&P I

English Composition I

Psychology

Sociology

A&P I is a very intense 4 credit class- 3 hours of lecture + 3 hours of Lab every week. You need to do REALLY well, like "A" work in all these classes to be considered for the clinical nursing program. QCC has roughly 120 clinical seats and over 800 applicants every semester!! So they just start with the 4.0 grade averages and go down the list. I don't think they go much below 3.5 nowadays. So clear the decks, be serious, and study, study study!

There are some great resources listed on the Student forum of this website for study-aids - like webcasts of Anatomy etc.

The Academic Advisement office at QCC can tell you if any courses you've ever taken elsewhere will transfer - (like English Composition, etc).

Oh, and don't get hung up on time- if you can get A's by doing just 2 pre-req classes per semester then do that!! QCC does NOT allow you to re-take the pre-reqs to improve your grades.

Will start Queensborough 9/08 I did most of my pre-reqs at Hostos community college. All but microbiology A's in all so they took me on the spot clinicals begin for me in january..I can't wait.....Any Advice????

Hostos was not the school for me. The program wasn't as serious as I was and it wasn't what you know that got you in the program. It was who you know.

Hello I graduated from QCC in May' 09 and now I am an RN since August 09. QCC does prepare you very well for nursing. The program is very demanding and you practically have to kiss your personal life goodbye. But it is all worth it in the end. Try to get the highest score you can on all pre req. I mean high almost 4.0. You have to they only accept the best. I went it with a 3.9 gpa but the program is so hard my GPA when I graduate was a 3.2. Good Luck.

Can someone tell me what the full list of prereqs and coreqs are for this program? I am pretty sure I have them all completed, but their website does not list this info. And curious to know what chance I have applying to this program from out of state (IOW, are NYS residents given priority in admission?), thanks!

I'm currently in pre-req classes..i am worried that if i dont pass one of these class i wont be able to get into the pre clinicals do u get another chance to re take any pre-req? also i heard theres only about 200 seats for the rn program. what if theres no room for you? do you get to apply the next semester?
