Hi. When did you start? Are you days or evenings?I kind of know someone that started in April evenings. How is the program and is it doable? I have an A.A.S. IN Medical Assisting from Trocaire (havent worked as a MA exctly but have been working at a hospital since MAY 2011. I recently got bumped out of my old unit clerk position and now I am training in pharmacy (not by choice). Im hoping to get some grants (I just went to my financial aid appointment recently). I still have to talk to my new boss about it because I know the schedule would be tough. Thanks

I started in April in the evenings and its definitely doable. There's alot of information given during classtime but as long as you make time during the day to go over it, you'll do fine on tests. I know people who have kids and work 40 hours a week and still do well. The instructors are nice and will help you if you have any questions. I hope that helps and good luck!

I just typed a reply and it didnt go through I guess grrr..lol but here it goes again.. Thanks for the info! I really have to talk to my new boss asap just kinda afraid to. To maintain my position I would have to work my 2 days 7-3. Now Im not sure what days my boss will allow etc. Im on the October days list. Even if I did evenings, I feel like I would have to worry about rushing to class/clinicals from work or get home late and have to be up super early for work (I sleep horrible too!) Also Potter is closer to me but I dont like that fact that it switches halfway through the site. Where are you going for clinicals? I know of a girl named Alyson who goes in the evenings also. Thanks again!

I am in the LPN program at E1B in Kenmore. I am in PN2, our class has a great teacher which makes a big difference. It is alot of work but I am sure it will be worth it. Our clinical are at Degraff, VA, and ECMC.

Anyone going to BOCES now can you tell me what to brush up on maybe to start reviewing? I have taken a med term class in the past and have index card. Also have my certified medical assistant review book. Also what materials did you have to buy? Paper notebooks etc. Im used to individual classes and I heard its pretty much everything in one class so I wasnt sure what school supplies I would need? Thanks!

The harderst part I am finding is the pharmacology. If you have a degree in medical history you probably have some Anatomy & Physiology under your belt. PN 1 is basically that, the Anatomy and learning some skills. PN 2 is when you get into learning the diseases and the pharmacology. I would look at some drugs and some diseases to become familar with them. What school are you going to? I go to school with people who are married, have children, and also work. It is doable. You will be going into it with some exposure it sounds so that is a big plus for you. There will be people in the class who have never had any medical experience before.

I am currently signed up for October Days at Southtows Academy wish they hadt at Potter during day like they use to. Im just not sure what Im doing about my job and I need to have it figured out somehow very soon! Maybe Ill start looking over a&p and maybe some med term review? Is there anything in particular in anatomy they will start with probably? Concentrate the most on?

Hi cmm4ever. I am in PN2 nights. Ive gone to ECMC and Buffalo General for clinicals. In PN1 for the anatomy and physiology they go over each system one by one, so brush up on basics. I found the muscular system and skeletal to be the two hardest mainly because of all the memorization of the bone/muscle names and functions. Also re-familiarize yurself with infection control because patient safety and asepsis are a big part part of the lab portion of PN1 where you learn your basic clinical skills. Good luck its a great program!

Hi, I am on the October list for Erie 1 BOCES LPN program. Orientation is September 10th. Can anyone tell me what to expect the first few weeks? How far into the program do you start clinicals and how far in advance do you know where you are going? Also I kinda dont want to wait until orientation to find out, so what kind of supplies will I need (like notebooks, binders etc..)? I hear its like everything all in one class. Like at my old college I had seperate notebooks etc for each subject. Anything else I should know? Thanks!
