Hey Everyone! I am currently an ER RN living in Atlanta,Ga. Theres a chance I will be relocating to Taos, NM next year. The only hospital I could find located in Taos is Holy Cross. Can anyone give me any information on this hospital? And I would also like info on the town. Ive heard it has that "small town" feel and great ski country, which is fine with me. But would I need to drive into larger cities for groceries, shopping, etc? Is it a retirement town or are there young faces as well? Any info or experiences you guys would like to share, I'd appreciate it! Thanks!

Hi, I am not from Taos but it is my favorite town right up there with Eugene OR and Arcata CA! The zeitgeist of Taos is uniqe to say the least. I never went to the hospital during my time there so I can not comment on the hospital. I did know one person who worked there who was into the Grateful Dead and lived in an EarthShip. There is a community of eco-concentious biotecture dwellings just outside of Taos. It has a small town feel for sure, there is one bus that is basically a large van but it only costs a buck. The ski valley is about half an hour or so from the town if you go straight instead of veering towards the pueblo. I never left Taos for much when I was staying there. There are several large chain groceries and even a walmart and my favorite is the natural market called Cids. The age range is as diverse as the art you will find. I first went there when I was a teenager and felt 'at home' and returned again a decade later and felt the same way. There are a few tourists but their ages are varied as well. If you have any other questions about this wonderful area I will do my best to answer them! I've never spent more than a couple of months there but dream of someday returning.

You might want to google the city commerce site for Taos. Around here, small town feel doesn't necessarily equate rural. Taos is a city in its own right, plenty of resources.

As far as "larger cities", Albuquerque is about it. However, between Taos and Albuquerque is Espanola and Santa Fe, both big enough, both cities. Northern New Mexico just has its own feel, and culture. Many many people groups, Taos Pueblo, then Navajo nation to the west, with many Pueblo peoples up and down the Rio Grande. Spanish culture reaching back hundreds of years. New agers and artists abound. Conservative Catholic and evangelic Protestants.

You can easily go north to Colorado as well. Plenty to see and do. Lots of folks from Santa Fe head up to Taos to ski, although the Santa Fe Ski Basin is pretty nice too. Can go up to Wolf Creek in Colorado.

Taos is at 7,000 feet, plan on taking time to get acclimated!

Haven't worked at Holy Cross, they ship severe trauma, sometimes cardiacs to Santa Fe or Albuquerque.

Did you take this job at Holy Cross? I applied for a lab position there and I love the look of Taos but I have the same questions as you do. what is it like there in the town? let me know how you are doing with it.....Kim [email protected] thanks!! anxious to hear from you

Hey! We ended up getting matched in Chicago; not Taos. Good luck on your job search!

Does Holy Cross employ CNM's or NP's?
