Rutgers ABSN new requirements

U.S.A. New Jersey

Hi,

I'm a recent grad looking to apply to the accelerated nursing program at Rutgers Fall 2015. I saw they just made some changes to their prerequisite requirements as well as some GPA requirement adjustments. Since I'm trying to finish all my prereq courses before applying in the spring, I want to get something straightened out.

For Newark/New Brunswick we have to take an interpersonal communications course. What counts for that? I have taken multiple english classes, several psychology classes, and a healthcare ethics course that is based both on legality and heavily on conflict resolution and healthcare professional-patient communication and relations. I feel like maybe that could count, but since it isn't a communications course, I'm not sure what counts. I have been looking through the course catalog and my local community college, and I'm not seeing much that is matching the description Rutgers has submitted from their own catalog.

Has anyone recently been accepted to the Rutgers ABSN, with the new requirements, that could shed some light on either of these issues? Thanks ! :)

I also have the same question. I am thinking about applying for Fall 2015 because I still have t)hree more pre-requisites to take, one of them being interpersonal communication. I did some research last night and found out that there are two pre-reqs to take interpersonal communication (Intro to Comm and Comm theory. This was such a surprise to me though. The only option is to take Human Interactive Processes; its pre-req is intro to sociology. However, Human Interactive is part of nursing school curriculum. So I am going to contact the school office to find out if I can take that course this fall. I've also taken many counseling classes in grad program which I did not finish but will find out if any of those courses can be counted towards this communication course.

if you have any other information, feel free to share with me!

Hi all!

I'm still looking for a few of the answers to my questions, and I know the Fall 2014 cohort has just been admitted. Can any of you all help me out with some of these questions?

Thanks and Congrats to you all!

Why don't you try calling the School of Nursing? I'm sure they'd be able to answer this for you.

I don't know about Rutgers but that is also a requirement for admission. It was called Intro to Interpersonal Communications. We either did that or speech. It is a low level 100 class. Pretty basic. I got an easy A in it.

If you call Rutgers, they will give you acceptable substitutions. I took an online Interpersonal Communication class.

Hey I am applying for accelerated program and wanted to know if anyone found information about personal intercommunion process and what courses could be related to that? I called up the department and they told me that I could take that course at a county college but I still wonder if any other courses could replace that? I took public speakifbut she told me that it doesn't count as one. A little worried!

Which ABSN program? Camden or NB?

NB or Newark but mostly NB

Here's a little unknown fact: RU In north jersey is not the same school as RU-Camden. Meaning, although they are both "Rutgers" , the one in Camden is the school of nursing, up north it's different! Different criteria, curriculum, etc.

Iam about to graduate RU-Camden ABSN (originally at UMDNJ), so I'm unfamiliar with RU up north's criteria. Sorry!

It's okay thank you!
