Rutgers ABSN new requirements

Published

Hi,

I'm a recent grad looking to apply to the accelerated nursing program at Rutgers Fall 2015. I saw they just made some changes to their prerequisite requirements as well as some GPA requirement adjustments. Since I'm trying to finish all my prereq courses before applying in the spring, I want to get something straightened out.

For Newark/New Brunswick we have to take an interpersonal communications course. What counts for that? I have taken multiple english classes, several psychology classes, and a healthcare ethics course that is based both on legality and heavily on conflict resolution and healthcare professional-patient communication and relations. I feel like maybe that could count, but since it isn't a communications course, I'm not sure what counts. I have been looking through the course catalog and my local community college, and I'm not seeing much that is matching the description Rutgers has submitted from their own catalog.

Has anyone recently been accepted to the Rutgers ABSN, with the new requirements, that could shed some light on either of these issues? Thanks ! :)

I posted this in my forum but thought I would update you all as well.

"I called again at 9am today (I was trying to hold of until 3pm or tomorrow) and they told me that decisions aren't made yet, they said the end of the month ( I mean come on that's tomorrow!! Can't say that forever and can't they meet deadlines? We sure had to) or sometime this week. Also she told me they will

send it by snail mail no emails as previously mentioned. I asked if there was a faster way, like dropping by when decisions are made and she said no. Which I don't get because let's just say you didn't know if you got in but went there and said you did and wanted to pay the deposit, I'm sure they would look up your file and see if you did or didn't but o guess the can't be bothered with that or giving responses over the phone/email. "

I feel all of you. I also applied and had almost the same conversation with someone. I was told decisions go out next week. From being accepted to two other programs (seton hall and wagner) most gave you exactly 30 days to tell them yes or no by submitting a deposit. If we receive our acceptance letters (here's to hoping we all do!!!) on say July 15th, that gives us and others until August 15th which is ridiculous. I heard from Wagner in March and Seton Hall in May. I don't understand how they can make us wait. I just want a yes or no. Yes I'm freaking out forgive me but Rutgers is so much more affordable!!

It is and that's the only reason I'm chasing them like a dog would a bone but I'm wondering if it's foreshadowing a crappy program.

I think Rutgers is a fine program, but remember how big of a school it is. In a school like Wagner or Seton Hall, you may have 30 to a class. Rutgers is known for large class sizes so less personal but i always felt students helping each other was more helpful than professors. That's just me though. Good luck to you! Email me if you want to talk more. I'd love to know where else you have applied and what your prereq grades were like. Mine make me nervous.
