NJ Board of Nursing - What the Heck?

U.S.A. New Jersey

Published

So I know that the NJ BON is notoriously bad. My husband graduated from nursing school in 2009 and had a six week wait, and my mother-in-law graduated in 2010 and waited two months from start to finish. Knowing this, I sent my paperwork in back in April. I tracked it as being received by April 16th. Check was cashed April 30th. Paperwork was entered into system May 14th. I was expecting about a two month wait once everything was received, and I was prepared for it.

It has now been three months, and I still have yet to receive my fingerprinting paperwork. I somehow got my ATT at the end of June, took my boards a few days later and passed, but they still haven't processed the fingerprinting paperwork. I've repeatedly called because I start my RN job on the 25th, and the BON just keeps saying that they've implemented a "new procedure" that makes them even slower than usual (awesome time to implement it, when everybody's graduating).

It's so frustrating, because I know that I'll have a wait for scheduling my fingerprinting, and then it'll be weeks after that is received by the BON before I get my license. I expected it to take a couple of months; now I'm looking at four (an optimistic outlook) or five months at least that it will take to get my license. I got a great job at a trauma center in south Jersey, and I'm not going to be happy if I lose it because NJ can't send out fingerprinting paperwork.

Does anybody have any suggestions on how to light a fire under these people? I don't understand why it is so difficult to send out one bloody letter that says, "you can schedule your fingerprinting." To still be waiting for that after three months is asinine. I'm so frustrated.

Hello. I am helping out my stressed-out wife. She is licensed in PA and applying for NJ. (we are residents in NJ). She started the on-line process but it has since stalled. She has checked on-line daily ('pending') and has called weekly and is being told it is being processed. We are thinking of taking the hour 1/2 ride to Newark. Besides bringing all documents such as birth certificates, parking money, etc....any other tips? In other words, what verbiage did you use upon arrival? We appreciate any help. Thanks!

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

Has she done fingerprints/background check? Did you check application status check list online? Not license verification. Same place you log into to apply

Hi nursedanny614 what is the email address of the head of the department?

I was having the same trouble in getting my license by examination. I completed everything from my side but they did not issue me a number. Luckily I was only lied/misinformed to once..after which I expressed my disappointment in strong words which was of no use(do I need to say that?). I was ready for the trip to Newark but then thought of giving the email a try. Although they did not reply to my email, I had an active NJ-RN License within 48 hrs!!The email addresses are given in the application form.

Can anyone help me with that email address? I have looked on the application and i cannot find it. I am applying for endorsement from NY. Thank you

What is the email address?

I'm going to Newark today. Thank you.

You think that is bad...try checking out the NJ Scope of Practice for UAP and LPN.

WtF.....

Did going to Newark help? Passed my nclex first week of August and have called in but still no luck with license number.

has anyone ever gotten approved by nj bon with drug related charges and rehab completion letters?

I figured I give an update since I recently received an NJ license by endorsement- and I didn't have to drive to Newark. The whole process took about three weeks, and my only correspondence with them was via email. I never called them. They were very responsive via email- yes they gave me the whole story about taking about 6 weeks, but I kept emailing once a week, got my fingerprints done in new jersey within the first week of filing my applications- and yesterday after I emailed them for the third time my license number was on the NJ BON website!

Hi. From what State did you Endorse your license from? Did you send CGFNS CES to NJBON? Hope to hear from you. Thank you!
