Do I have a chance for Accelerated BSN in NJ @ Rutgers, UMDNJ, FDU, SetonHall, NJCU??

Hi, I am majoring in Biology at Rutgers, expected to graduate this May 2011.

My current cumulative GPA is 3.1 which is pretty low...I applied as a transfer for Rutgers-Newark Nursing school using school to school (Between Rutgers campus/majors) with cumulative GPA 3.1 but then I didn't get accepted. I guess I have to be at least 3.5 to transfer to Rutgers Nursing school. So I am going to apply for accelerated BSN programs at Rutgers, UMDNJ, Seton Hall, FDU, and NJCU.

Do you guys think I have a chance?

I finished all my pre-nursing requirements at Rutgers- A&P I and II with labs, microbiology (I took the one for biology majors which is harder and the nursing department said they will count this as microbio requirement), general chemistry I&II with the labs, developmental psychology, statistics and the grades for these classes were all above B!

But I am really devastated and disappointed at myself being rejected. I understand 3.1 GPA is low but it's because I took all that not-so-easy level 4 credit biology pre-med classes such as organic chemistry, physics, mammalian physiology, molecular biology etc which could have lowered my GPA at some points.

What should I do??? Should I wait and apply after I get my Spring 2011 grades or just apply now with 3.1 GPA???

I feel like I am not going to get in :-(

If there is anyone who got accepted to one of those programs, would you tell me what was your GPA and such??

Maybe I just should take GRE or MCAT and prepare for graduate school??? :-(

Please help me out...Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you!!

UMDNJ ABSN student here and recent grad from Rowan University with BS in Bio. Not sure about the other schools but I know my school has a gpa requirement of 3.0 for the program. If you have above that you should get in, but there are no exceptions for gpa's lower than 3.0. It is good that you come from a Bio background. The attrition rate here is 30-40% and the communication studies/art degree people don't have much of a shot.

Ignorant comment. :uhoh3: This B.A. graduate has as much shot as science degrees grads. In fact, many of us are doing quite well.

@OP, as long as you have a 3.0 GPA, you'll get in UMDNJ. Good luck.

Yes students with B.A's or any other degree can and certainly do well in the program. With this said however, if you look up attrition statistics from your cohort you will find that the majority of students that fail or have to retake classes do not come from a degree deeply immersed in science. And in the OP's case or any other pre-med science degree, the organic chemistry/upper level biology classes do help....

Keyword being HELP. Show me where you found your statistics please, since I know PLENTY of people with B.A.'s doing JUST fine in upper level classes.

I'm sure you do, there are plenty of students in my class with B.As that are also doing well. I did not say they can't do well, I was simply implying that students with these degrees may have more difficulty in the program. And if you would like specific statistics please refer to your CAS department (Center for Academic Success), since that is where I was given this information. I would drop names, however that's not allowed here on the forums.

I suppose your comments hit a soft spot for many people. I too have a B.A. and have been accepted into UMDNJ'S program. To tell someone that their degree may determine their success rate is a bit arrogant. Think about it, if this program was only for students whom had a Bachelor's in Science then people with B.A.'s wouldn't be eligble to apply. We are all trying to make changes in our lives because the economy has us second guessing what we first majored in, so this is a second chance to make a positive change. I understand that you weren't trying to be rude but often they say intelligent people lack social skills, no one is perfect but we don't need anyone shooting us down before we even get a running start!

i have a question! what was any of you guys gpa if you did get accepted into the nursing program??? i have a 3.0 and in the eof program! what should i do??
