Do I have a chance for Accelerated BSN in NJ @ Rutgers, UMDNJ, FDU, SetonHall, NJCU??

U.S.A. New Jersey

Published

Hi, I am majoring in Biology at Rutgers, expected to graduate this May 2011.

My current cumulative GPA is 3.1 which is pretty low...I applied as a transfer for Rutgers-Newark Nursing school using school to school (Between Rutgers campus/majors) with cumulative GPA 3.1 but then I didn't get accepted. I guess I have to be at least 3.5 to transfer to Rutgers Nursing school. So I am going to apply for accelerated BSN programs at Rutgers, UMDNJ, Seton Hall, FDU, and NJCU.

Do you guys think I have a chance?

I finished all my pre-nursing requirements at Rutgers- A&P I and II with labs, microbiology (I took the one for biology majors which is harder and the nursing department said they will count this as microbio requirement), general chemistry I&II with the labs, developmental psychology, statistics and the grades for these classes were all above B!

But I am really devastated and disappointed at myself being rejected. I understand 3.1 GPA is low but it's because I took all that not-so-easy level 4 credit biology pre-med classes such as organic chemistry, physics, mammalian physiology, molecular biology etc which could have lowered my GPA at some points.

What should I do??? Should I wait and apply after I get my Spring 2011 grades or just apply now with 3.1 GPA???

I feel like I am not going to get in :-(

If there is anyone who got accepted to one of those programs, would you tell me what was your GPA and such??

Maybe I just should take GRE or MCAT and prepare for graduate school??? :-(

Please help me out...Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you!!

Your fine, I had a 3.26. I don't think it matters if you are in E.O.F so was I. That might helpbin terms of financial aid but not by that much. Where are you applying to?

i am going to apply in rutgers newark! its very competeive there thats why im asking...but thankyouuuu :loveya:

Did u think about UMDNJ????

Hey,

did you get into any programs??

I applied to the Seton Hall program and got waitlisted. I was dumbfounded!! I double majored in neuroscience and cell biology / Psychology. Got A's in Organic Chem 1+2, A+P 1, Bio 101+102, Systems Phys, Statistics, Advanced cell bio, NeuroBio, etc. I did get B's In physics 1+2 and a C+ in Advanced Neurobio. I had two excellent letters of recommendation too. Waitlisted!! I dont get it. I have a 4.0 in the Psychology Major too. When they said getting into these programs is competitive I didn't think it was this fierce.

How bout you?

Hey! I am a sophmore at rutgers newark, and my major now is psychology. And i want to get into the nursing school but its very hard, and i heard you need a gpa of atleast a 3.8 to even look at you. I was just thinking of getting a BA in psych and going to an acclereated program like in fdu or umdnj. Is the program in UMDNJ extreamely hard? i just want the insight into it..or any other ABSN program for that matter. Please help me and let me know.

Thank yOU

I'm in my second semester at UMDNJ's ABSN program. No, it's not difficult to get in. It's not necessarily hard, just a lot of hard work is required to keep organized. You just need a 3.0 GPA from your previous degree and meet the other requirements for the prerequisites.

Also, due to the amount of applicants they receive per semester, you might not get into the semester you applied for, instead they'll accept you into the following semester. For example, more than half of my cohort applied for the Fall semester, but we all got bumped to the Spring, because Fall semester was full.

Keep your chin up and stay focused and motivated :)

First off...you're obviously a hard worker, and need to keep on your path to reach your goal without becoming beaten down, or frustrated to the point of distraction. These schools have all become so competitive we allll know, but that doesn't mean that you don't have a good chance. I'm a Rutgers undergrad student trying to get into the nursing program, and believe me....we at Rutgers all know how competitive this school is!!!

My suggestion to you would be to apply to these other schools and write a killer essay, and to try and schedule an interview if that is an option.

You also have the option to complete an RN if accepted into a program through a community college like PCCC (very strong), or ECCC... and afterwords to an RN to BSN if you wish. These community colleges are also competitive, however you so have lots of optiions.

Hang in there and keep pushing forward...it'll all be worth it!!

First off...fellow Rutgers student wishing you a congrats on Graduation!!!! yayyyy!!! go Scarlett Knight! Hope you had a great time at the ceremony. I'm graduating either next Spring of '12 as a Psych major, or the following as a Nursing major...we'll see in a few weeks if I am accepted as a school to school....

Sorry for the delay in writing on this thread, but just joined the forum a few days ago...and I too am at Rutgers (SAS).. I say that you need to go for it and apply via the accelerated route, to Rutgers and to UMDNJ and wherever else. I do think that you might want to set up an interview to discuss admission at Rutgers if you feel it would be beneficial, or if they are open to it.

In my opinion, a 3.1 is a mighty-good GPA for someone like yourself taking the caliber of Bio classes that you have to take. I mean, being a student at Rutgers currently, and taking the Rutgers math (cough), and about to embark on another Chem class (The first one was brutal), I think you are doing great and have a good chance at gaining acceptance to an A-rate Nursing program soon!

I wish you much luck and success...I don't know you, but you sound like a major-achiever! You've conquered genetics for goodness sake, and maintained above a 3.0!! I think you should be commended!-- you'll be fantastic in a nursing program.

Thats good! what was your gpa and major when uyou applied for the ABSN program? if u dont mind me asking. I am doing a psych major for the time being and still trying to get into the Rutgers-Newark nursing school but its very competitive. So my secound option is to major graduate rutgers with a BA in psych and do acclereated in either UMDNJ or William Paterson U. You think thats a good idea? i would really love your opinion on this lol..i hate feeling like im the only one going through all this school stress. Thank You!:)
