Do I have a chance for Accelerated BSN in NJ @ Rutgers, UMDNJ, FDU, SetonHall, NJCU??

Published

Hi, I am majoring in Biology at Rutgers, expected to graduate this May 2011.

My current cumulative GPA is 3.1 which is pretty low...I applied as a transfer for Rutgers-Newark Nursing school using school to school (Between Rutgers campus/majors) with cumulative GPA 3.1 but then I didn't get accepted. I guess I have to be at least 3.5 to transfer to Rutgers Nursing school. So I am going to apply for accelerated BSN programs at Rutgers, UMDNJ, Seton Hall, FDU, and NJCU.

Do you guys think I have a chance?

I finished all my pre-nursing requirements at Rutgers- A&P I and II with labs, microbiology (I took the one for biology majors which is harder and the nursing department said they will count this as microbio requirement), general chemistry I&II with the labs, developmental psychology, statistics and the grades for these classes were all above B!

But I am really devastated and disappointed at myself being rejected. I understand 3.1 GPA is low but it's because I took all that not-so-easy level 4 credit biology pre-med classes such as organic chemistry, physics, mammalian physiology, molecular biology etc which could have lowered my GPA at some points.

What should I do??? Should I wait and apply after I get my Spring 2011 grades or just apply now with 3.1 GPA???

I feel like I am not going to get in :-(

If there is anyone who got accepted to one of those programs, would you tell me what was your GPA and such??

Maybe I just should take GRE or MCAT and prepare for graduate school??? :-(

Please help me out...Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you!!

I'm actually still an undergrad at Rutgers (New Brunswick SAS)... applied for the traditional nursing track as a school to school transfer and, at this point, just awaiting a decision.

sorry i was actually replying to sum1 elses post...idk how it came here sorry but thanks

i dont know how to work this chat thing...im trying to relpy to sum1 elses but cant

If you have above a 3.0 you'll get into UMDNJ....

yes thats what im thinking of doing! graduating with a psych degree and going for acclerated at UMDNJ but im thinking twice because UMDNJ is a medical school and maybe risky going for it there because im having a difficult time getting into the rutgers-newark nursing program :(

UMDNJ is NOT a medical school, it has many schools under it's umbrella, one of them being a med school. Go to their website to see the lists of schools. The same thing as Rutgers University having many schools within the university.

So, I'm missing your point that it's "risky" to go there.

okay thank you! what were the pre reqs for the accelerated program?

can anyone tell me if umdnj is biased against students from out of state? I live in nc but plan on applying to the absn program at umdnj. I have a 3.3 undergrad, and im in the motion of taking the pre reqs (which i plan on getting all a's in)

@ samirac...the pre reqs are a&p 1 nd 2 with labs, microbio, chemistry with lab and a stats course...alot less than many other absn programs!!!

I can't really say if umdnj is or isn't biased.. However, I have yet to meet anyone that isn't from NJ or NY. My class, from my knowledge , all reside in NJ.

I am also a student at Rutgers. I have not declared a major as of yet, although I entered SAS with the intent of majoring in Bio, after not being accepted into any nursing program.....anywhere! I planned on going the P.A. route after being denied by all of my top choice nursing programs in NJ (traditional track.....with a ******* 3.85 GPA from a two year school). Rutgers will not throw you out of school if hang in for an extra semester in order to boost your GPA....this is an option-- although I think that a 3.1 is a fine enough GPA to have you in good consideration for some excellent nursing programs, as an accelerated student. I think that the Rutgers accelerated does not demand the same "over 3.5 GPA" that the traditional track does. Those Bio classes are just brutal on the GPA I know it!!!!!!! Why not at least put in applications and see what happens-- a 3.1 is not too shabby my friend seeing first hand the level which you are taking courses at (We might have even suffered through one together lol!)

I wish you the best, and it sounds like you've got the goods, it's just all about strategy-- don't worry...just keep pushing forward, and I would say send out your applications for admission next Sept, and get your letters of recommendation.

Best,

FP1
