CNA @ CSN?

U.S.A. Nevada

Would like to hear some feedback on the CNA program. Difficulty? Job placement?

Thanks, that sounds good. Hope you don't mind me asking, but what was your starting wage and hours?

I finished the program at CSN December 2013, and I got a job in my clinical setting in January right after I passed my state exam. I loved the program! The teachers were awesome.

They start at $12 an hour, I worked 6-2 am, three days a week since I had another job.

thanks -- three days sounds good.

I don't recommend doing LPN! They rarely hire LPNs in hospitals (if that's where you hope to work). I did my ADN then went on to get BSN.

I disagree. If there wasn't a career path for LPNs there would not be an educational program for it. All depends on where you are willing to work. Also with the point system entry for NV schools it's a crap shoot trying to get into a public jc or university for an ADN or BSN

Specializes in ICU.

I didn't say there wasn't a valid career path for LPNs... Just saying that *hospitals* don't generally hire them. Lots of LTCs do though! So it depends on what your goals are after graduation. If you're hoping to work peds or L&D or just any floor in a hospital- you won't be able to start there as an LPN. (Some hospitals are now only hiring BSNs even.)

Update:

I went to the CNA orientation yesterday and it was packed! --- and that was the first session. They moved the start time back by two hours and I didn't know that until I got there. There were a handful of people who didn't know about the time change, but I suspect the registered students were notified because now that I'm registered I got a reminder e-mail about orientation. I didn't register until later in the afternoon because I'm still waiting on my job to pay for it. Thought I would have lots of time to get the class times I wanted -- wrong! Those classes filled up quickly in the last few days. Pickings were slim and I didn't get the class times I wanted, so I'm not sure if I will continue.

----------------- went over the packet of information provided to students:

TB test, drug screen, books, uniforms, CPR, Physical, health insurance -- answered questions throughout and then students cued at the end of the presentation to have questions answered individually.

The textbook bundle is $50 because this is the last semester for the current edition. Next year they will use a new edition.

The line to buy uniforms/supplies was ridiculous so I'll get those at another time.

I took the CNA class at CSN Spring 2014! it was good i had awesome instructors! i do say the class is wayyyyyyyy more hard than state exams i was wayyy nervous to do the state exams but after i was like ahhhhhhhh they tricked us to thinking it was hard lol but i guess that was a good thing make us study harder.... job placement not so much, well u can get hired at the LTC you practiced at but mines the nurses were very mean so i decided not to apply! but good luck and if you have DAN he's soooooooo awesome! and wayy funny! :)

@Queen

Have you been able to find a job?

Anyone know what sites clinical are at?
