CNA @ CSN?

Would like to hear some feedback on the CNA program. Difficulty? Job placement?

bumping message

I went through the program 4 years ago, so it may not be as relevant as someone who went through more recently. I didn't feel it was very hard for someone who had finished almost all the prerequisites for the nursing program.

They are very strict on uniform and attendance policy. No fake nails, neutral makeup, clean uniform. Don't even think about being late or missing a day.

Passed my test & skills 2 weeks after class ended. Was hired into a long term care facility 2 months after my license posted (which took the longest).

Good luck!

Thank you, Star! Orientation is Wednesday, so I'm getting anxious. Did you have a LTC picked out before you finished?

I also went through quite a few years ago... They didn't help with job placement after finishing. Don't know if they do now though. It was a great program, in my opinion! Good luck!!

Where did you get a job at?

I worked at a rehab in the Southwest. It was called Desert Canyon. Beautiful facility! But it was bought up by Healthsouth and they let go of a lot of employees (me included... I was just working one day a week while going to nursing school- and I was one of the newest employees). It was a good experience and really helped me become a better RN! Are you planning on going to nursing school? I think all RNs should be CNAs first!!

Yes. The goal is to eventually get a BSN. I'd like to get ADN or LPN in the next two years and then bridge

I don't recommend doing LPN! They rarely hire LPNs in hospitals (if that's where you hope to work). I did my ADN then went on to get BSN.

Well, this is my plan:

CNA program for Fall 2014

Pre-reqs for nursing program Sp 2015

TEAS, Summer 2015 & then apply to nursing schools

I have a BS already, but I have to retake math & sciences because they are more than 5 years old.

I figure to get the LPN & start working while pursuing a bridge program. However this is all subject to change due to management (husband) funding :)

Great plan!! Hope management supports and funds your goals!!! ;)

I finished the program at CSN December 2013, and I got a job in my clinical setting in January right after I passed my state exam. I loved the program! The teachers were awesome.

Thanks, that sounds good. Hope you don't mind me asking, but what was your starting wage and hours?
