Your Surreal NCLEX Moment.....

Nursing Students NCLEX

On January 23, 2004, if someone told me that 3 years later I would be preparing to sit for an exam that would grant me a license to practice as a registered nurse, I would have laughed in their face.

Well, here I am 3 years later and less than 24 hours away from NCLEX-RN...

Working full time, nursing school full time and a two year old, I can honestly say that these past 2 1/2 years have been a blur. I know everyone says that they're nervous the night before taking the exam, but I can't explain how I feel... it just doesn't seem real. Anyone else have a surreal moment before, during, or after NCLEX?

No practice questions tonight, well... maybe just this one:

The physician prescribes "60 min American Idol hs" to a client the night before a life altering exam. The nurse determines that teaching has been effective if the client states:

A. I will ask my husband 50 times whether he thinks I will pass

B. A a bottle of wine and a pack of cigs hs, will complement the script

C. I'll contact the physcian if I develop diarrhea

D. Chocolate chip cookies and a glass of warm milk are appropriate to take with this script.

I keep freaking out thinking I accidentally scheduled my NCLEX for Jan 23 instead of Feb 23 and that I have missed it and have to re-apply. I've checked at least 12 times today to be sure my exam is FEB.

dansamy...I did the same thing back in October...I had to keep checking over and over to make sure I read the date correctly...funny how this test makes us crazy huh?

Good luck to everyone taking their test...let us know how yall did...

Well....

I got 75 questions, mostly meds and prioritization/delegation questions........also about 10 choose all that apply/put in the order of ...................I guess I either nailed it or completely messed it up. I didn't get one math calculation, and not many maternity questions.....

I also found most of my questions to be pretty difficult......there didn't seem to be any answers that were "typical" for situations we learned in school.........

Well I am off to continue my ED orientation tomorrow morning..........hope that will keep me busy for the next few days till the results are in.

How are you feeling, smkiya? I hope we both passed :)

Will be keeping my fingers crossed!

I also had 75 questions. They give you 6 hours and I did 75 questions in 2 1/2 hours. The questions were really really hard and I spent like 3 minutes on each one. I was confident in eliminating 2 wrong answers but choosing between the last two was horrible. one math, one peds, no mom baby, lots on precautions, who would you call first, who would you assign to the peds nurse working in med surg, priority, no delegation which scares me, lots of meds... I was upset when it shut off at 75 because I didn't feel confident about anything except that math question. i'm soooo nervous!

I am totally nervous too, but I guess a good way to look at is that we are done with school. It is not like we flunked a class and have to repeat so we have our degrees, and if we have to retake the NCLEX, in the grand scheme of things it is not that bad. At least it won't lower our gpa, etc.... lol....

We probably both passed. My rationale for that is that since the questions seemed so difficult, we were probably being tested on higher level questions. If the machine had shut off at 75 and the questions had seemed too easy, then that would have meant that we weren't advancing to a difficult enough level..............

I am also stressed because RI does not do fast results, and I have to wait now for notification from the BON here to find out my results.........it is going to be like torture!

Well let's try to relax and keep busy till we know. I will be sending good karma/wishes your way and let me know how you did.

Smkiya, sounds like we took exactly the same exam, except I had no math questions!! :uhoh3: I'm in CA and my BON doesn't have my file complete so I'll have to wait a while to get my results, but I think we both probably passed. Best of luck!

Thanks...

Every hour on the hour i keep going to pearson to see if my quick results are in even though they say it takes two days. i'm a nervous wreck! my husband is also on pins and needles because he and our bank account have been waiting 2 1/2 years for me to start making a 'real income' again.

good thing i don't bite my finger nails, i'd be down to the knuckle by now and it hasn't even been a full 24 hours...

GOOD LUCK! I'm sorry CA doesn't have quick results.

Best wish to you. I bet you passed. ;)
