You People Are Ripping My Heart Out!

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Everytime I come to allnurses I see the torture on this forum. I passed my boards on the first try (years ago), but I still remember the anxiety, and the feeling of failing. I have NEVER forgotten it! I don't know how to help you, but I feel compelled every couple weeks to come on here and send you good vibes. Please don't give up and lose sight of your dream. Keep plugging away, and I am wishing so much that you all will eventually pass. my very, very best to all of you!

Thank you blindsided! I really appreciate this post! :) I'm not going to give up. I don't care how long it takes or how hard I have to work for it. I will do it. :)

thank you!! i know i can do it!

The nclex is not a dream killer. I passed the first time and did not think it was all bad. The key is to think positive and develop a game plan. You have to tell yourself, you too will pass the boards. If 85% people pass the first time, you can pass too. Just dont get discourage, think positive and keep telling yourself "you can do it", trust me, you can.

If its not all that bad, how come so many people even tho they study hard for it they still fail????SATA's and Pharma i think is a big JOKE..There are thousands of drugs, how will you expect someone to remember all this drugs side effects. On my last exam, i have drugs i've never seen before in my life and you expect me to know the sideffect and how to take this drugs when i dont even know it??BULL...SATA's...when you made a mistake of choosing one wrong answer, everything is wrong..BULL..again...So there ..it just kills you. No wonder people think after they took the exam that they blow it because of this item format..Its just crazy....

You are right, there is no way to know the thousands of drugs. Something they told us in school that really helped me on the NCLEX was to not memorize drug names but know the classes. And sometimes you can tell by a drug's name even if it's new to you, what class it's in. For example, drugs that end in " lol " are usually beta blockers. And you know what beta blockers do. So you know what the drug will do and what the side effects probably are. That's where critical thinking comes in!

That seriously helped me not only during nursing school but it helped me on the NCLEX and it helps me at work. I still look up any unknown drugs but I usually guess what they are before hand.

I hate those SATA's though. I always got those wrong in school. The thing I learned with those was to not try and overthink it... I would always click too many. I hardly ever clicked not enough.

Good luck!

Study the meds by classes not memorize every single drugs. If 85% of people pass the first time and 50% pass the second time, means only 7.5% having trouble passing for third or more times, which mean you too can pass. Some people are not successful because some may have test taking anxiety, reading too much into the questions, not well prepare, having personal issues or other unknown reasons. I just hope you can evaluate the way you study and learn how to take the test. I am hoping one day I can read about your success story. I believe you will pass, just have to make some changes.

Yes, I really don't know how to help, since I have never been in the position of having failed the NCLEX. I don't know which review and study habits are best. At the time, I couldn't afford to attend a review like so many of my classmates. This brings up a question of just how many nurses don't pass no matter what they try. I personally have not known any, but I know they exist. I just really feel that you all can do it, and should continue to post your stategies that worked. If I want it bad enough for you, it will happen, right? It's my fervent hope!!!
