She's taken it about 7 times...

Ladies (and Gentleman, I'm just sure there's more women here):

My fiance has taken her NCLEX-RN exam atleast 6 and maybe 7 times. Her last attempt was this past week and we found out Saturday that again she failed. I don't know what to do anymore and if I could get some advice for her I would really appreciate it.

First things first, she would kill me if she knew I went a route like this as she has become very discouraged and depressed.

She graduated from the largest public university in our state that has a great teaching hospital last May with an RN-BSN degree. Why is it that she cannot pass this test!? I have passed my own state licensure exam (CPA) and I know I'm more comfortable in a test environment than her but I am having difficulty relating to her situation.

She has taken the Kaplan course live twice and we purchased Kaplan books for self-study, I bought her the online Hurst review, and we have purchased tons of flash cards and even other books. Just last night I bought her a Saunders book.

My concern is that all of these companies creating test preparation materials do not do so in the same manner as the Becker review I took for my CPA exam. The cost of my review was approximately $3,000, is it true that you get what you pay for? I am further concerned about the lack of feedback after the exam. She has received a "score report" once that showed the content break down percentage and her estimated pass/fail in each category, but again only once!

I feel that I am computer literate and I have read these forums a few times and have come across people discussing Suzanne's 4 but I can't seem to locate the program or any other specific information pertaining to it.

I am wondering if there are private tutors available? There may be enough information to decipher who she is in this thread but I prefer to keep it somewhat anonymous so if you know of tutors I would rather respond to you about the state and metro area we live in by PM.

She is currently working in the hospital of her dreams and waiting to be able to apply as a nurse (her boss even held a position open through her first 3 attempts), if anyone can help me help her I would greatly appreciate it. My next step is to begin studying for the NCLEX-RN myself right alongside her....

OK, lets just go ahead and stereotype me the typical male that doesn't read directions. I just found the thread with Suzanne's instructions posted in the most difficult place to find...right on top. I am reading it now and will at a minimum suggest it to my fiance, but I would still like any advice others may have...

Fiance, I'd be happy to advise you but, thank goodness, I pass tests.

I am going to bet that she has severe test anxiety, and also that she over-thinks things.

If test anxiety is an issue get her an appointment with a reputable hypnotherapist. Seriously.

Hello CF,

I am one of those ladies that is in the same boat that your wife or fiance is in. Tell her don't give up and keep on thinking positive. Because there was times when I was really depress and wanted to give up but then my parents told me that you have made it this far and there is only one more step which is NCLEX exam. Also reading this forum gave me more hope and think positive. I think with moral supports from family and friends does helps.

I have tried Kaplan and others reviews that cost total a lot of money already too!!

I am doing Suzanne first plan now and nothing else. Why don't you talk to your wife about doing Suzanne plan? let her read Suzanne tips first and see if she wants to or not. This is up to her. She needs to discipline and make short-term and long-term goals that is how I am doing now. Make a planner on everyday how many chapters to finish.

And how frequently is she retesting? Is it every 45 days or is she giving herself the proper time to prepare?

She should be preparing as if she has never tested before, not just doing new questions and reviewing additional material. This may be one of her problems.

Your assumption is correct and I too believe this to be her biggest problem, subsequent to every failure she has signed up to take it in 45 days. All of her friends from school passed on the first try and 3 of them work at the hospital she's an assistant at so she gets to see them progress everyday. I will most definitely discuss your offer and have her sign up here on her own and since we just bought the book last night that you recommend I'll make sure she does the end of chapter quizzes and gets through your first tip.

I appreciate your help and I'm sure she will too.

She needs to take a short break before starting again, give her brain some relax time and then start with Suzanne's plan. It is a great plan and I am sure she will do well

And there is no way that she will be able to retest in 45 days if she wishes my help. It is absolutely insane to do that, and no way to prepare properly for it.

If she wishes my help, she needs to complete the first tip and then there is a full 45 day program to follow and you never want to be preparing up until the day of the exam, brains need time to just absorb what it has learned.

And mailings are only done every two weeks.

She also should take at least a week before she starts to prepare again if she wishes the best chance of passing.
